I am looking for a good post processing program for still photos. I would love to be able to create those HDR photos I see on this site, as well as layer, adjust horizon tilt mistakes, eliminate red eye, and all that other cool stuff you "pros" are doing. I'm currently using the Canon program that came with my camera, "Digital photo professional" which leaves much to be desired. Does anyone have info or has anyone worked with Adobe photoshop elements 10? If so, can you let me know if it's good, bad, average? I can get the product new at a discount through educational program offers so wouldn't have to pay full price. Any info or insight into this program (or alternatives) would be appreciated. :thumbsup2

Since no one else has answered yet, I'll take a stab at helping. First, I don't enjoy PP as much as others. I have Photoshop Elements 8 and the DW has Corel. Elements is more consumer oriented and CS5 is more for the pro. There's also Adobe Lightroom that gets good reviews. At this stage of my photographic life, Elements works well for the work I do (adjust exposure, color, straighten horizon, clone and repair, etc.), although I did add on Topaz Labs DeNoise 5. I do recommend DeNoise 5. There is a whole Topaz Suite that is far beyond anything I do. Some others with much more PP experience should be able to help more.

I have used Elements 9 extensively for photo editing. I got Lightroom, and once I got the hang of it, I only use Elements for "special problems" and creating door magnets.

PS Elements 9 does not do HDR. In fact, if I bring up an HDR Image (that has not been reformatted to JPG in it) it complains that I need CS5.

PS Elements 9 does well with layers, cropping, and photo leveling, but I think that Lightroom beats the pats off of it. I now do all my shooting in RAW format and have maximum control after the produced image, including an initial set of filters that is applied when the photos are downloaded off the camera card. I then tweak and convert to JPG those I care about and delete those that show that I am still a rookie. There are those between these two categories that I save for potential future use.

Lightroom also integrates will with Photoshop Elements (and CS5, I'm sure) as well as can support direct uploads to Photobucket and Facebook.

Both Elements 9 and Lightroom can be downloaded for free 30-day trials, and I strongly recommend you take advantage of that offer and decide for yourself.

Thanks for the info. :thumbsup2 Anyone else have any insight for this product?

I don't use Elements myself - I actually use the Canon DPP software for my edits and then for extra work use Corel Paintshop Pro X4 (just upgraded). It does all the things you mentioned, including HDR merges. Also, the plugins that people use with Adobe software (such as Topaz Adjust or NIK) also work with it. It is often on sale and may be close in price to your educational discount. You can also try it for free for 30 days to see if it works for you.
