Anyone have this program? Is is worth the money? Do you have to buy any "extras" to make it work or understand it? Dh and I have a project we have to do and either we have to buy it or go to Kinko's/Office Max and have them use theirs to do it. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I've been using Adobe Photodeluxe Business Edition for about a month now & it works very well for me...HTH.:wave2:

I can't imagine that for one project it would be worth the money. I think it's about $650.

PhotoShop Elements is about $100. I use LE at home and for the most part it does everything I need it to do.

When I worked FT (I'm a SAHM) I had the full version at work.

I'd love to have the full version at home but for what I need it just costs too much.

Edited because I left the J out of project

The full version that radionate speaks of is a profesional program and there is a serious learning curve to really take advantage of it's features

That's a lot of money to spend unless you know you're going to use it regularly enough to justify the expense.

Why not try JASC's Paint Shop Pro? It's along the same line as Adobe Photo Shop and works quite well too.

Or, if you're doing simple photo editing/enhancements, you could try http://www.freeserifsoftware.com Their software called PhotoPlus 5.5 is similar to Photoshop and Paintshop albeit with less bells & whistles.

However, it is a fully functional program and it's completely free. The company (Serif Software - out of UK) wants you to use their older generation programs in the hopes that you buy the newer versions. I have Photoplus and it works quite well too. You can export the finished product into JPEG/GIF/TIFF... various different media.

Thanks for the replies! These other programs won't work because they use only digital pictures. I need to be able to scan old pictures. Dh says we will be able to use it in the future (we do have a digital camera now). Do any of the other programs suggested scan old printed photos? (not ancient, just a few years old) This is a VERY important project! :D We are making our profile pages for our adoption agency. Almost done! :Pinkbounc

Any of the programs will work with scanned images. The software to turn it into a "digital" picture is really built into the scanner.
Once you scan the image in and save it as a .bmp or jpg file the software doesn't know if it came from a scanner or a digital camera

I use Adobe Photoshop Elements with my scanner, and have great luck with it. I just can't justify paying the price for the full version of Photoshop when Elements works so well.

Actually, what I do is use the scanner software to get the picture onto my computer, and then use Photoshop Elements to edit it to what I want.

Thanks so much! Dh had the brilliant idea of calling the IT guy who works on the computers at work to see if he could get him Photo Shop cheaper. He told him how to do it in Word! AND, he adopted through our agency too and knows exactly what we are doing and he said he'd help! I'm getting chills!

I have Photoshop and love it. But yeah, it is expensive. For simple photo manipulation I use Irfanview. It's a great little graphics program and best of all it's free. Here's the link:

http://www.irfanview.com/

It interfaces very well with my scanner. And, as someone above said, it is the scanner software that converts the photos to digital format. The graphics program doesn't give a flip about where the photo came from (digital camera, scanner, web...). Good luck on your agency.
