Admission age Question

What are the ages for the tickets, do you have to purchase a ticket for a 3 yr old? I couldnt remember if it was 3 & up or 2 & up on the rules. If it is 3, my son will be turning 4 the week after we visit WDW, do we need to verify his age upon entering, if so how? I was prepared to purchase him a ticket but then heard it was free admission for 3 and under...so I thought I better check! Thanks in advance.

The Disney age rules are fairly simple.

If the child has not reached third birthday by the first entry to the park on a trip the child is free for the entire trip and does not need a ticket.

If the child has reached their third birthday but not their tenth by the first park entry of the trip, they require a child's ticket.

If you have a partially used child's ticket and you child has reached the tenth birthday during the trip or since a previous trip the child's ticket may be exchanged for an adult ticket with the same access allowances of the original ticket with no additional cost.

You do not need proof of a child's age, but what do you do if you claim under three and a CM at the gate says: "Hey, big boy, how old are you?" and the child answers "four"!

Thanks for the info...I did some checking around and saw that the age requirment was "under 3". So unfortunatly we will have to buy a ticket for him, no big deal since this was the plan anyway! Just had the thought about the age minimum as I was drifting off to sleep!

I was faced with a 'conscience' issue when we went years ago. Our daughter turned 3 on March 1st & we arrived on March 2nd. We did the right thing and bought the ticket. I struggled with not buying the ticket, justifying it by "she is so small, etc. etc." but I couldn't in good conscience do that. So, we paid the money & slept good at night
