Has anyone heard of those who had Eastern Caribbean sailings booked who were given a slight credit due to the itinerary change. The Eastern Caribbean sailings were priced higher when booked than the Western Caribbean sailings. I'm just curious if Disney is kicking a little money back to the customer since the sailings are being changed to a lesser expensive cruise than what we had paid for....

No, and when I called to try to switch to a different sailing (we have NO desire to go to Mexico) they told me I was lucky because western sailings are more expense and they weren't charging any extra in spite of us getting an extra port with the new itinerary. I told them the western sailings before and after the one we booked were hundreds less and they basically said I must be mistaken. Good luck!

We received the adjusted port charges as mentioned above but that was before our Eastern was switched to a Western. There was no price adjustment for the change to Western.

This was interesting to me, so I did a quick check about differences between Eastern and Western

Opening day 2 adults 5C

10/6 Eastern $3903
10/13 Western $3847
10/22 Eastern $3777
10/27 Western $3847

I am not sure what the ports fees are at each port, so do not know how that affected each cruise.

In reference to our specific cruise, the Western a week earlier is $182 less for a Veranda than what we paid a week later for the Veranda on the Eastern. For the week after our cruise the Western is $232 cheaper than what we paid for our Veranda for the Eastern. Yes, chump change when spending $5500 for a cruise. But those are funds that could be requisitioned towards our next booking :sail::darth::chewy: :ssst:

Just saying.....

In our case we weren't even asking for money back or a stateroom credit. I was trying to explain to the CM that we pay more for cruises that don't go to Mexico (a personal choice that we feel very strongly about), and now, in spite of paying more, we're still ending up there...twice. That's when the CM told me western sailings are more expensive. Sure, there may be some based on dates and holidays that are more than others but generally speaking, we have always paid more for eastern than the western sailings around the same dates would have cost us.

What we were asking for was to switch to a different cruise that week that was not going to Mexico without paying a huge penalty. It would have cost us almost $3,000 more to switch to a B2B on the Dream that week because the prices increased significantly before they announced our itinerary change. We were willing to pay more but not THAT much more. We asked if they could honor pricing from an earlier, pre-hurricane date (we booked 1.5 years in advance) and they said no. They were pretty unwilling to work with us on this and other issues that came up as a result of this changed itinerary. They wouldn't even take responsibility for the things that were in their control (lack of communication, switching the brunch we stayed up until midnight to book, canceling the excursion we stayed up a second time until midnight to book, etc.) They just blamed everything on the hurricanes. So, unless you have much better luck than I did, I wouldn't expect a thing.

In our experience the Westerns were almost always more money as there were more ports....thus more port charges than the Easterns.

I always thought easterns were more money as they seemed more desirable as you get to go to St Thomas and St Marten..

Depends on the itinerary. Not all go to St Maarten and not all go to St Thomas.

Posting again, for anyone who cares to do the analysis. These are the opening day prices on the Fantasy for about a year and a half of sailings - 4A and 8A. When I made the chart, there were only a couple of Easterns turned into Westerns.

People need to keep in mind that pricing isn't just based on west or east, but also on the week of the sailing. For example, the Western on Dec 23, 2017 was $7786 for 4A, and happens to be over Christmas. But the New Years Eastern the next week was $6210 for the same cat. Obviously, that difference isn't just about whether the sailing was east or west.

I don't know about opening day, but the Easterns sell faster. The GT rates I saw this Fall were originally Westerns. Of course they are all Westerns now.

It's hard to compare, just because Easterns sell quicker so the price rises faster. Also, some of the variance is week. Stuff in March definitely is colored by proximity to Easter.

We had looked at opening day pricing and the western and Eastern were within 50 dollars of each other (back to back weeks). One week later, the eastern was about 200 more than the western (always looking at the same category cabin), a few months later, the western was about 250 more than the eastern. So I think it’s a coincidence if you’ve always paid more for one or the other. The pricing is very dynamic.
