We have reserved 3 rooms, can you request ahead of time for adjoining rooms, or do you ask when you get there?

You can request in advance, so that they make a notation on your reservation, but you will have to ask again when you get there.
Keep in mind that there is a difference between "adjoining" and "connecting". Ask for "connecting" if you want a door that opens between the rooms on the inside.![]()
Beware.
I paid my balance for a preferred room 6 months prior through WDW site and requested an adjoining/connecting room (on website and via phone) with my mother in law who also paid for preferred room. Upon checkin, we were informed at AllStar Sports that they were overbooked and not only would we not be in a preferred room (building close to buses, food court, pool, etc) but no connecting room. In fact, my mother in law who was traveling alone on her first Disney trip in 20 years would not even be in the same builing as us. Very upsetting at first though we did not let it spoil our trip. This was Feb 2007 off-season but with some overlap of dance and cheer competitions during our stay.
The cast at desk were not very apologetic and did not offer ANY compensation and were suprised when i asked for a refund for the $10 extra per night that i paid for the preferred room. After talking to several cast members on site and several calls from home after leaving, I finally got my refund for the $10for each night of stay 5 weeks after I left disney and 7 months after I paid for it! Not impressed with the way they handle reservations at AllStars. After 2 trips there, I think we're done with ALLStars. This trip changed our view of them though we had enjoyed the value aspect. Hoping our next trip to a deluxe will be different though i'm sure there's problems that arise everywhere.
perkinsrose,
So sorry to hear of your trip problems. I am surprised they gave you a hard time about the refund -- that is really not OK. We've stayed in the deluxes and have always been treated well, but I would expect that at any Disney hotel, not just the more expensive ones. I hope your next trip is better!

Were the rooms actually booked under the same reservation, or were they two seperate reservations, with a note to request adjoining/connecting rooms? I wonder if it would make a difference if the rooms had been booked under the same reservation?
This was just a thought I had as I was reading the information. We traveled with my MIL in January, and did get connecting rooms, so I can only imagine how difficult it was to deal with that, and then the difficulty of getting the refund on top of it!
I was told they make room assignments within day or two of guest arrival.
keep in mind that it is only a request. As a Pp said , they only guarantee connecting rooms if the amount of children in the party out number the adults.
