Hi,

We currently own 150 points at SSR with a December use year and we are looking at adding another 50 point contract. Here is what we have on the table and wanted to get some advice from the board:

Buying from Disney:
50 point contract at SSR @ $91.00 a point for a total cost of $4550.00 and they will give us 2006 points and we will get another 50 in December of 2007.

Buying from Reseller:
60 point contract at OKW @ $77.00 a point for a total of $4620.00 plus $400.00 closing cost for a total of $5020.00 or $83.66 a point.

I guess when i look at this the benefit of OKW is that when we book shorter trips which we tend to do this will help at the 11 month mark. On the flip side OKW is pretty easy to get into anyway.

The benefit of SSR is that the total cost is less even though it's 10 less points and we will have it 12 additional years.

Can you help me? What am I missing or not thinking about?

It looks like you already covered most angles. My thought is that if you already own the SSR with 12 years-you might want to add the SSR points just to keep them the same end years. OKW is large and I have not had a problem making reservations there, though getting a GV would be another story because they do go fast.

Disney points will be quicker if you are planning any trips soon. Good luck with your decision :)

I think you're covering almost all the bases. The only thing you don't mention is contract length, and that would be the deciding factor if it were me.

I would say SSR, simply based on contract end date. OKW is relatively easy to get into at 7 mo (SSR, too)....so better to have the longer contract date in the end. 10 less points vs 15 extra years of use.

Yes...you definitely are correct in your analysis and certainly the cost effective way to decide from whom to purchase DVC and even when they differ some, its worth not waiting for ROFR to maybe ruin your plans. :goodvibes

Lots of people never consider the "other reseller costs", see only the per pt. price and think they got a deal, and, don't add in "ALL" the $$ into thier per point. price.
Unlike a financial portfolio..having "all your eggs in 1 basket" allows you to manage 1 contract and have full use of "ALL" your pts. @ both the 11/7 mo. window.....but thats just MO :thumbsup2

Given those two choices I'd go with SSR. However, I'd personally go with AKL direct. For the extra $10 per point you get a resort with a higher resale value, home resort priority for the points you buy there and a later expiration still.
