Adding to party at check in?

We have a party of 10 and made all of ADRs at the 180 day mark. My sister now lives in Orlando and would like to see us as much as her schedule allows. Problem is, she won't know her schedule until right before we get there. She will not have an AP and can't afford more than one or two days in the parks. So, I would like to include her on some of our non-park ADRs.

Since we can't just add her to our reservation, we're going to have to try our luck at adding her to our reservation when we check in for each meal. I know this isn't easy for the restaurant, but two in our ADR are two years old. Will they just let one of them sit in the lap of an adult in order to include another adult?

No, they won't. As was explained to me when my kiddo was 2, it's about capacity and not people paying for their meal. Sorry.

My best suggestion is to add your extras to every meal they might be joining you and then go down before you get there when you know your actual numbers. It's easier to go down than up.

My Mom decided to join us on our trip in November about 2 weeks ago and had no idea the dining chaos her decision created. Luckily I was able to get several ADRs changed to 4 ppl, but not every one could be. So now I'm back on the ADE prowl. :headache:

Btw my SIL and her family were originally supposed to go with us and she had asked if she could sit with us and not eat (it's a long story but happens frequently and yes, she does eat without paying....our leftovers on buffets! And they have money, but somehow she I think feels these calories don't count?) anyway, Disney told her firmly, no.

It's not a matter of making room by squeezing in another person at the table. Everyone needs to be included on the reservation because if a restaurant is at capacity, fire code regulations will not allow extra people to be seated. Also, if a restaurant is running far behind schedule we've seen walk ups, latecomers and extra people not on a reservation being turned away.

As much as possible CMs will try to seat everyone, but you should try looking online multiple times a day for a table for 2 at the same time as your current reservation to ensure a seat for everyone. At the restaurant you can ask if the 2 groups can be seated together.

You can also subscribe to the cancellation thread for your month that is on this Dining Reservations board.

Ugh, I didn't think about capacity. Thanks for the info! I'll have to see what I'm able to do now, I guess.
