Is it hard?

What kind of cost is involved?

If you add someone to the deed (if you can) do they then get a membership card.

Any information is appreciated.

hi. i haven't actually gone ahead and done this yet.
but i wanted to drop a name from our deed. adding a name is the same procedure.

i contacted DVC Membership Administration. and they faxed me a detailed instruction sheet.

basically, if you want to add someone to your deed, you need to submit an official letter of notification to DVC.
basically, tell them you want to request that they Waive ROFR for a gratuitous Transfer of Ownership Interest.

if Jane Doe wanted to add John Doe to the deed. then it would be something like "Jane Doe ('Grantor') wishes to make a gratuitous transfer of her ownership interest to Jane Doe and John Doe ('Grantee')".

then, once you pass ROFR, you must have someone (a lawyer, closing company, or yourself if you know how) rewrite the Deed.
you can do a regular Warranty Deed.
or you can do a Quit Claim Deed.

you must contact Orange County Office of Comptroller to get info on how to go about getting the new Deed recorded.

also, DVC might charge you a $100 Transfer fee. plus, to get the Deed properly written, you might have to pay a lawyer or closing company up to $400? i'm not sure on that figure.
plus there is a recording fee and taxes from Orange County. it's less than $50 though, i think.

i think, yes, the added member will get a Membership Card.

you might also want to consider making them an Associate Member instead. if you want to avoid the hassle of redoing the deed. i don't know the details though. i know Associate Members don't have all the same perks as a regular member.

We took my mother off and added my son in her place. I called Disney and told them what I wanted. They took care of everything and we signed the papers while we were on vacation there. She met us at OKW and it took only a few minutes. I don't remember what we needed to bring with us. It wasn't more than a few hundred dollars to do it all. It wasn't hard at all. My son got his card in the mail in a few weeks. We got the new deed the same way.
