adding points

A friend is letting rent their points but I need more points to complete our reservation. How do I combine the points?

You could purchase points from another member and have them transferred to your friend. Just make sure you know the ins and outs of transferring points.

Or you could rent another reservation from a different member and have them linked. As long as they are exactly the same type of villa at the exact same location.

yep - either:

1) pay to have another DVC member transfer pts to your friend, or

2) have your friend book 4 whole nights (or whatever number) and rent the next 3 nights (or whatever) from another DVC member, and ask your friend to reference the new reservation on the first one so that DVC member services will know to link the 2 reservations in the system (so that you don't have to check-in again and potentially have to move).
