Adding Points - Which resort?

We have been a member since 2001 and finally decided to add points through member services - probably 50 pts. Was wondering if we should add at Aulani or Grand Californian? I also understand that it might be much cheaper to add at either Vero Beach or Hilton Head but the annual maintenance fee for these properties are much higher. We live on the East Coast so we would be infrequent visitors to either Hawaii or CA although we would like to visit these places. What are your thoughts? TIA.

Since 50 points isn't going to go far at either of those resorts, I doubt I would add on such a small amount at either unless you already own points at both.

I added on 50 points at Grand Californian to go there once every 3 years in May and stay in a studio for a week. Our first trip is in 2011. But in 2012, I plan on buying 25 more points there to enable us to go there every other year in a studio.

If you love the resort where you currently own, I would add on there via resale. If you have a 2nd favorite resort that you stay at often, I would start buying points there, again via resale.

If you don't care where you stay, I would consider buying the cheapest resort with the cheapest dues and hope that Disney doesn't change the booking rules.

Thanks for the replies. Our home resort is VWL which we love. Was thinking of adding on in CA or HI because I understand that it might be difficult trying to get a room at 7 months out. Although we don't plan on going every year - maybe once every 3 years, I would be really bummed if we could not get a room at either of these locations when we wanted to go.

Also, I read that for small add-ons it might be easier and cheaper to purchase from DVC since you don't have to pay closing costs. Are there other benefits to buying a resale?

I would add on at a resort you love going to thats why we bought at BWV as our add on as we want to stay there every year.
