BLT is our home. We love it. Now we'd like to execute step 2 of our Evil Plan, adding cheap points at a less expensive property to pad those that we already have. Does this even work? Buying an additional 200 points at another WDW DVC property (OKW, SSR, or AKL) to use at that property, another property (such as BLT) or to simply rent out. We're thinking we could book BLT 11 months out and book our new property 11 months out. At the 7 month mark, look to see if we can add to our BLT reservation and if so, cancel the other and apply the points to BLT, or we keep reservations at both or we simply rent the points at the cheaper resort. If we were to purchase points at OKW, SSR, AKL BRV, or BWV...what can those points be rented out at? Is this a common DVC strategy? Thanks DVC Pros and Addicts for your assistance!

You certainly CAN do that. Are you saying you’d take a shorter vacation if you couldn’t extend your BLT reservation?

Generally speaking you’ll get about $1 less per point for SSR and OKW points, unless someone is looking for a reservation within the 7 month window, in which case all points are the same. The brokers are paying roughly $15 a point, and you can get more sometimes for a confirmed reservation at an in-demand time. Renting privately you can sometimes get more.

And then do what with the BLT points? It's probably too late at that point to rent them at 11 mo priority, which is where the price difference comes for the fancy points.

But if you had them sitting there for four months, for a reservation you planned to SSR anyway, it's probably too late.

But sure, if you go every three months, and plan to rebook a 10 month ressie, this is a fantastic strategy.

Buy the points you plan to use and no more. Don't plan on renting your points when you can't use them.

Well, I agree with buy the points you plan to use, BUT, I think you meant that you "should" rent your points when you can use them (otherwise they will expire and go to waste). However, don't plan to buy more than you really need just to rent out as a business.

I think it is feasable.
We have 300 more points than we need and with the money we make from the rental we decrease our Disney vacation costs.
