Hi all. We've thought about adding on points, probably 25(ish). Our home resort is SSR. Can we add on at another resort if only 25 points? If we can, then how does that affect out booking window? Can we book at the add on resort 11 months out? One other question, what does ROFR stand for? Thanks for the help.

If you add on 25 points at a different resort, the most points you will ever be able to use for the 11-month window at that resort is 75 (using all banked, current, and borrowed points once every three years).

And ROFR is "right of first refusal." Disney has the option of buying back ANY resale contract, before that contract can close. Keeps the prices from falling below whatever point WD company chooses. You cannot even do a private sale between two agreeable parties without submitting it to DVC for ROFR.

Thanks Grandbuddy. So if we add on at another resort we would be better to add on what we would need for a full ressie? If we added on, would our use year be the same?

Do what makes sense for your budget, but if you're thinking of adding on at another resort, I'd just make sure you have enough to bank and/or borrow to make a reservation. The real benefit of adding on at another resort is having the 8 - 11 month booking advantage. If you don't have enough points to take advantage of it, you might as well add on at your current resort so you can combine those points at the 8 - 11 month mark.

As for adding on, if you add on through Dis, you will have the same UY (regardless of resort). If you add on 160 or more through Dis, you can choose a different UY if you'd like. If you purchase via resale, you can buy any UY and amount of points you'd like.

Having the same UY (regardless of resort) will allow you to pool your points at the 7 month mark to make a reservation (same master contract). If you purchase a different UY via resale and want to pool points (say you need an extra 15 points to complete a reservation), you would have to do a transfer from one master contract to another. Different UYs require separate master contracts. You're only allowed 1 transfer in or out per UY. With that said, we are THISCLOSE to purchasing a VB contract with a Dec UY. Our SSR contracts are both Aug UYs. I may regret having to juggle, but bottom line, we take most of our vacations in July/Aug time frame, and Aug is the WORST UY for July vacations. The Dec UY will give us some additional flexibility, and we'll get to enjoy the beach to boot!!! :cloud9:
