I have dining reservations for 4 people at various restaurants in WDW. I need to add one additional person to each reservation for a total of 5 people on each one. Is it possible to do this through MDE or do I need to call the dining reservations number and speak to a person? Thanks.

You have to call and if possible the CM will modify the reservations, but if there is nothing available for 5 you will have to start checking online to see if you can find a new reservation. You can look for a reservation for 5 or an additional reservation for 2 at the same time as your current res. If you find a res for 2 when you check in at the podium ask if the 2 reservations can be combined. As much as possible CMs will try to accommodate you, but you might have to wait longer because you will need a larger size table.

Ok thanks. I just find it silly that they have a link in your reservation that says "Modify Guests" but do not allow you to check to see about adding a person without taking out an existing person.

If you replace one person on the reservation with someone else you still have the same number of guests, but you want to add another person so you now you have a bigger group and need a larger reservation. It's 2 different scenarios.

I agree but you would think their system would be sophisticated enough to give you the option of expanding a reservation without cancelling it altogether.

It is an issue because say you have an ADR for 4 people so you have a 4 top reserved. You want to add a 5th person? You now need a 6 top which is NOT what you reserved. Reservations can't work that way.

I ended up calling and had no problem adding a 5th person without cancelling the reservations or changing times. The changes are showing in MDE. Same confirmation numbers and everything. It would be a lot less cumbersome if they would just let you make the changes without calling.

They can't guarantee you can add people ahead of time. They need to check the system and see if there is availability.

They obviously had availability. There is always the chance they won't.

Very late to the conversation but I'll post just to add my experience. Last year my parents surprised us at Disney. We had 10 reservations (party of 6) and obviously they weren't in any. Everything from California Grill to character dining; easy and "hard" reservations.

One day they didn't eat with us. For the other 9 reservations, we were 9 for 9 in adding them as we checked in without an additional wait. No additional wait time, and they even seated us together. I was completely shocked half the time. We didn't expect it, and just politely asked if it was possible.

YMMV, and I probably wouldn't try it adding 10 people. ;) But seating large parties is difficult so I was surprised they could always accommodate 8 of us off a ADR of 6.

does anyone know how hard it would be to add 2 people to already 13 person reservation? or should I actually say does anyone know if we were to show up at chef mickey's with 2 extra people for a reservation of 13 how likely it would be they would be able to eat with us? I'm thinking since we are already such a large group, and most likely already have 2 tables of 8top that adding 2 extra wouldn't be that hard since right now the chairs would be empty anyway, yes I know we can call and find out, which we will I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried .

You need to call. It is always a possibility you can add guests, but the only ones who will know are at Disney Dining.

Definitely call and try. In our experience, they would fit in a couple chairs if possible. Tight, but we're family. :)

I'd call. When we were there in February they turned away a group of 10 at Akershus for dinner who wanted to add 2 extra people at the podium (actually 3 with an infant). Granted, the guy asking to add didn't actually ask, he loudly demanded that they all be seated together right then and there or "They all would walk!"

The CMs said sorry, no can do because it is about the fire code limits, not if they have a physical chair available. (This was also during people waiting 8+ hours to see A&E.) :confused3

We have 5 people in our party (4 adults/1 child) and I have a Be Our Guest dinner for 4 at 4:35pm and one for 2 at 6:25 pm. I know I can show up with 3 at the first reservation and send the other 2 two hours later but it's just a hassle! I called yesterday to see if we could make the first reservation for 5 and the character :rolleyes1 that answered the phone informed me that "Be Our Guest is one of our most popular restaurants here and if you've got a reservation, you're ahead of the pack, just leave them as is". So, here I stand...with two reservations at 2 separate times because I can't chance getting turned away at the first reservation since I have 1 more than my original reservation. I understand but still feel a little sad that I could cancel my 2nd reservation and make someone happy if I knew for sure they could fit in another chair at the first reservation. :confused3

Keep checking. You never know what may come up.

There is no way to know if they can just add another chair. Most restaurants already have the tables practically on top of each other, with no room for adding chairs.

Can I ask, why did you make a reservation for 4? Was someone a last minute addition to the trip?

Yes, it was just going to be our immediate family and then a friend decided to come down later in the week and join us for a few days. I know I was lucky to get another reservation within a 2 hour time period.

Oh and I DO check...often! I am one of those people that check numerous times a day which is why I have awesome reservations and just started planning this trip 30 days ago :thumbsup2

I know it is not ideal, but maybe approach your friend about maybe skipping that one meal so that your family can enjoy it without stress?:confused3

There's a thought! This isn't our first dinner at BOG so I'm ok with splitting up. It's also her first time so I know she'll love the experience.
