Adding park hopping to ticket questions

We will be at the resort in a week for a short stay. Right now we have single park tickets for 3 days and plan to go to EPCOT, AKL, and DHS. I did not buy park hoppers because in the past, we haven't used them. However, with the earlier closing of AKL and DHS, maybe we would like to have them and visit MK. We are coming out from the west coast, so evenings will be better for us sleep wise than mornings.
So here are my questions.
How far in advance do I have to make the decision to upgrade the tickets? Can I decide that day that we are in the parks and go to ticket booth and upgrade?
I assume I would have to upgrade all 3 days. Yes? No?
How can I determine the cost of the upgrade? Disney's website makes this difficult for me to determine.

Thanks everyone.

1) You can upgrade to PH up until the last day of your ticket.
2) Yes, you can decide to upgrade in the parks. You can visit Guest Services, any WDW theme park Ticket Window, or the Concierge Desk if you are staying on property.
3) PH is an "all or nothing" deal and therefore will cost you the same whether you do it right now or do it when you are at the parks. IMO, it's best practice to decide by no later than your first day in the parks so you can get the value of PH and use it every day if you so choose.

I'm not sure if this works, but you could try visiting the WDW website and go through the process of "booking" PH tickets 3-days, starting on the same day as your current media. Just don't pay when you get the final page, where it will show you the total cost. Use that number to calculate the difference. If that doesn't work, I would simply call Disney and ask what the difference is to upgrade.
