When we purchased we were a family of 4 and now we are 6. Looking at adding on points, but have no clue as to where to even start to ask questions. Go through disney or buy resale? Please point me in the right direction. We have 200 points..looking at adding at least 50-100 more.

Depends on where you want to add on. Small 50 point contracts are hard to find resale, that might be a good reason to buy direct. Resales can be half price otherwise. You came to the right place for advice. Read everything you can here. Lots of wisdom/experience.

It would help to know how you use your points. Do you use them strictly for DVC villas or do you plan to use the points for a DCL cruise or other Disney Collection exchanges? Only direct purchase points can be used for those exchanges. But if you plan to only use your point for a DVC villa, then I would consider buying resale. It might mean that you'll be able to buy 100 points via resale versus what it would cost you to buy 50 points direct from Disney. And as a family of six when your youngest is out of a pack 'n play that means you'll need to stay in a 2 BR, 100 extra points would really help then.

If you're wanting 50 points at say Boardwalk I would purchase direct as the resale savings might not be worth the time it will take to find your UY and a small contract, add the closing $$ to that and buying direct makes sense.

If you're not that concerned about where you add on, just want to keep the same UY, then adding on 100 points at SSR or AKL can be much cheaper (maybe 50% less) on the resale market than buying direct!

I would definitely try to find a resale contract as they are much cheaper.

I'd suggest you contact one (or more) of the companies that handle DVC resales. I know the Timeshare store sponsors this website and gets good reviews. We used a different one (only because we found the right contract there) and had good results too. Get an agent to put you on their "watch" lists so that if something that matches your needs comes up, they can contact you as soon as it gets listed.

Regardless, spend some time on these DVC boards and educate yourself. It will be time well spent.
