Can someone tell me how adding points to a contract works. We are looking at buying in through resale at SSR, but know that we might want to add more to the contract in a few years when we are in a better position to do so. Are the certain times that add-ons are offered or are they available any time? What options are available? Any info would be great;y appreciated.

You can add-on points at any time, at any resort, subject to availability. If DVC doesn't currently have the points, you can waitlist for them. You can add-on as few as 25 points if paying cash or 50 points if financing.

Thanks Mike, I've seen your name pop up a lot in my research the past few days. Thanks for your help. DW and I have just decided to put in an offer first thing tomorrow! We're hopeful we'll be able to use it this fall. can't wait!

In addition to Mike's post, you can also add on via resale. If you see a contract you like that's the same UY and an offer is accepted by the seller, you can tell the broker to make sure Dis knows that this is an add-on to a current contract. You'll have to provide them your member number.

Either way, it's easy to add on points. It's easiest through Dis, because you don't have to fool with the entire resale process and passing ROFR. However, any add-on below 100 points through Dis will be at full retail per point. They usually don't run any type of discounts until you reach a 100 points or more. Many times, you won't get any type of discount until you reach 160, but if you watch for it, they'll sometimes run specials at certain resorts.

Congrats on your current purchase and good luck with your future plans! :goodvibes

Does the add on have to be at the owners current home resort? What about use year? Any idea what the closing cost would be on a 25 point add on? Could the add on be sold on the resale market at a later date if necessary?

no, it can be at any resort.

(you cannot combine pts from different home resorts for booking at the 11 month window, though.)

What about use year?

yes, an add-on MUST have the same UY. (you can still buy a small resale with a different UY month and have 2 separate master contracts, though. but you would be unable to pool pts for a reservation at the 7 month window without using your yearly transfer.)

Any idea what the closing cost would be on a 25 point add on?

yes, it's zero.

Could the add on be sold on the resale market at a later date if necessary?

yes. (that is where 50 pt contracts on the resale market come from.)

i came over to this thread just to post the Question and saw the another poster had posted a question about it too.

But my questions is

How do the dues work for adding on?

We purchased 225 last october.
And woudl ike to purcashe more in our same use year and add it on to existing,

But if we purcashed say 100
How much more would our dues be?

Also looking on the time share resalee pages, they do not tell you or i dont see, how long the points are good for? 30 years , 40 years etc?

your home resort rate x 100, adjusted (i.e. prorated) for the months remaining in your use year, i think (someone with more experience should verify this.)

Year OKW BWV VB VB(sub) HH VWL BCV SSR AKV
2008 4.56 5.04 6.04 4.71 5.16 4.87 4.80 4.21 4.71

except for OKW, it doesn't matter if you purchase direct or by resale.

AKV ends in 2057
SSR ends in 2054
all others end in 2042

OKW purchased direct ends in 2057...OKW resales can end in either 2042 (true for most OKW resales) or 2057, so you have to pay more attention.
