Adding on resale question...different contracts?

I have only added on direct, so the thought of adding on resale is new to me.

I know if you add on with a different use year, it's a different contract so you can't use points together for a reservation unless you transfer them from one contract to another (and one transfer is allowed).

If you add on resale with the same use year as your original contract, is it the still a separate contract or is it added as part of your original contract number?

An add-on (direct or resale, it doesn't matter) is always a separate contract.

If it's titled in the same names and has the same UY, it can be added to your existing membership (a true add-on).
If different names or different UY, it will be a new membership with a new member number.

The first contract with the same UY and ownership will be 1234567.000, the second 1234567.001 and so on. Unless you have a good reason for a second UY, having only one makes life easier.

So if it's resale and it's titled the exact same, I could have it added to my existing membership and it would all count as one contract? This is what confuses me a bit. I just don't want to deal with transferring points between contracts and am trying to decide if it's worth doing resale or just do direct.

If it's titled the same and the same use year, it will all be one membership. If you've added on direct, then it will look exactly the same; you already have multiple contracts under the same membership.

If you purchase a contract with a different use year, you would have to transfer points if you need to combine them to book a reservation.

We have bought additional resale contracts several times. You need to make certain they are titled exactly the same and of course the same UY and on the closing documents I've also noted about our existing membership and the membership number. DVC has gotten them added on to our existing.
