Hi, we are visiting the world at Christmas and we are thinking of a small add on using finance (we will be paying it off not long afterwards but it will be easier to do it while we are visiting WDW rather than sending paperwork backwards and forwards from the UK). Anyway....

Can we just go to a DVC 'booth' at say DTD and add on there or have we got to contact our guide??

I don't find our Guide very approachable and whilst people have recommended I contact him before I travel so he can get the paperwork organised beforehand, I am reluctant to do that as I have yet to stay at either BLT/AKV (my home resorts) and I want to stay at them both over Christmas to make sure they are the best places for my add ons. I know my Guide won't be vey impressed if he gets all the paperwork ready and I then change my mind!!;)

Many thanks for any info:thumbsup2

The people that man those kiosks can't sell memberships or addons. You will need to contact your guide, or another one if yours is not in the office.

I don't see any real value in contacting your Guide about the add-on before the trip.

In fact, since you are sailing on DCL, I would suggest attending one of the DVC sales meetings during the cruise. They normally offer prices which are a dollar or two less than what DVC Guides sell on land.

If you want to get everything settled before you head home, see if they can overnight the documents to you while staying at Vero.

I agree, no reason to pre-call. And, I would also see what deal they are offering on the cruise.

thanks everyone:lovestruc - I hadn't thought about getting a better rate on the cruise - thank you (and Tim thats a great idea about then getting the docs forwarded to us at Vero - that would make it really straight forward!!):)

I will relax now - I didn't fancy ringing my Guide if I didn't have to!!!;)

Thank you!!:thumbsup2

If you really don't like your guide, perhaps you could call member services and request to be changed?

We did a small (50 point) add-on to our BLT contract whilst in the World in July. We called our guide when we arrived, met him at the Preview Center at SSR the next day, and were done in about 45 minutes. It took a little longer because we split the points into 2, 25 point contracts, so we had to sign 2 copies of everything. Good luck! :goodvibes

You will definitely get a better rate on the cruise. Just stop by the DVC desk on deck 4 and they will set up a time to talk to the on board guide. They can have paperwork done the same day. We did it on our Nassau day and it was quick and painless.

Why would you want to do the paperwork while you're on vacation? Why not call from home and have the guide send the paperwork to your house?

The OP is from the UK and different countries have different laws about buying. From what I have been told it's easier to buy while at Disney.

Not always. When we cruised in 2009 the offers were exactly the same as on shore...unless you were adding quite a high number of points. For something like a 500 pt add-on they were throwing in something extra. But for lower level add-ons and new purchases, the price was the same.

Still in this case I see no reason to start the process before hearing the DCL offers.

For this reason I guess I'd leave knowing what the add-on incentives are so you know if the cruise is a better deal or not. You can find these out by asking here or visiting dvcnews.com.

If the cruise incentive isn't any better, you'll know, and no pressure to do the paperwork right then.

Best thing to do is to stop at the desk at the resort or in the parks. The person there won't be able to sell you the points but they will be able to help you. For instance right now the best prices for members to add on points are if they go to the "Top Of The World" event at Bay Lake Tower. (I don't know if that will still be going on when you are at Disney or not.) But you have to schedule that at one of the info desks. If there is no event or if it doesn't fit into your schedule, the person at the desk can set you up to visit one of the sales centers to hear what the current promos are at a time that you choose.
