adding on and making reservations

We want to take 3 trips during our 2011 use year. With the new point charts we are going to have to add on, but when? Do I need to already have the points in my account to make the reservations or do they have to be in my account before checking in?

When you add on through disney how long does it usually take for the new points to be usuable?

You need to have the points in your account to make the reservation. A direct from DVC add on points are available that day you make the deposit. Resale takes anywhere from 6 weeks on to get the points in your account, from the time you begin the resale process.

PS. If you want an add on from DVC for a resort they don't have UY points for you, you have to go on a waitlist and that can take some time. I've waited up to 2 weeks for BCV points in the past.

I hate the new point charts!

The only place that we've been hurt is at Vero Beach where we have gotten used to having a Beach Cottage when we go with our extended family. The MF's for VB and the falling resale prices have us in a bind. I worry if DVC is fully committed to keeping VB. That's our gripe with the new point charts.
