I have a trip coming up in June and some family members will be joining me during our last two days. I've already made my ADR's for just DH, me and our children (party of 4). Should my other family members decide to join us (party of 3), how hard is it to get them added to our ADR? Has anyone ever walked up and asked if a few more guests can be accommodated? Did it work? I'd rather not double-book my ADR's and don't want to make them for more people than needed.

Going from 4 people to 7 means doubling the amount of tablespace. It's really too much to expect during busy summer months, IMO. I would wait until your family members know their plans, and then try to modify the ADRs.

I wouldn't count on just showing up and having the restaurant be able to seat all of you, especially if you are jumping from a table of 4 to a table of 7. Going from a party of 3 to 4 or 5 to 6 is one thing since it takes the same table to seat the extra guest. They will turn away those not accounted for on the ADR. If you don't want to try to change your ADRs to a party of 7, perhaps have the other party make their own ADR for as close to the same time as yours, this way, at least, you will all finish at about the same time.

We had it work once at Liberty Tree going from a party of 6 to a party of 11 believe it or not (we were surprised too lol)... However, most of the time it is unlikely unless you do it in advanced bc table space is VERY limited during crowded times.

As soon as you know, I would try to get an ADR. If you can't get one, there is no room. You may get lucky walking up with last minute cancellations. But, the restaurant has fire codes to adhere to as well so adding 3 people last minute is usually not an easy thing. Which restaurants are you trying to do this to?

Sanaa & Biergarten.

I don't know about Sanaa as I have never been there but you may get lucky with Biergarten. I have been there several times and have yet to see it completely full. The way the tables are set up and the way they seat groups together might lend well to your situation. Either way, I would try to get a new ADR when you know they are going to join you. Good luck!
