So my husband and I really want to do a 9 day trip but we are not sure if we can afford it. If I booked a 6 day trip with free dining and then decided we could go longer, will I have problems adding the extra days because of free dining? Or can I just book the longer trip and then take off a couple days if necessary?

It will have to be available under the FD promotion. IT will probably be really hard at this point, but you might get lucky.

I forgot to say it's for next year. ;)
We just recently decided to go. And I LOOVE planning. So I'm kinda ahead of myself in planning it.

I'm trying to add an extra day to my trip this year :( hoping something pops up. I save $400 in plane tickets by leaving one day later. I'll let you know if I succeed.

If you're hoping for free dining, you won't even be able to make that reservation until next year this time (if free dining is offered at all). Won't you know by then how long you can stay??

keep trying, people switch days all the time or even cancel. The extra day that I added on was also a free dining day, we won't be getting in until late but now we have an extra days worth of dining credits.

Thanks, I keep searching! I'll be at pop Nov 15-23 and trying to change it to 15-24. If I can't get it I'll just have to pay a room rate for one night.

I got lucky and was able to extend our free dining trip by one night but the room has to be available for your full dates you want to be able to do it I think, if that makes sense. So I had already booked with FD from 11/26-12/4 then a few days later I was playing around on the site and saw that the same room type I already had booked had availability for 11/26-12/5 under FD promo so my TA was able to add the extra day. But I'm not sure that would have been possible if that availability hadn't been there. But like a pp said, you could always add the extra days as a room only booking, you just wouldn't have the FD available for those days.

Not sure if I just got really lucky or a CM that really knew what she was doing but I was able to add a day at the beginning of our trip and take away one from the end. I was shocked because the first day wasn't available and I had been trying for a couple of weeks. When I called I said, I need to cancel the last night. She said so you're going down to 3 nights? I said well ideally I would like to add one day before but it's not available. She said she would check and easy peasy it was done. So it can happen but it's not likely.

Book the 9 day trip and then take away days as the trip approaches. Your deposit is $200 either way. Just make a decision before you pay for the trip in full.

But I agree with the posts above, free dining is no guarantee. I had pre-planned my trip for this November (with free dining) well in advance. For the first time in forever, Disney blacked out the second week in November.

I'm not sure about subtracting days but adding them the whole visit has to be available. We decided to add a day to our trip, no availability online and I have called a couple of times as well. So we booked a night at a value resort for our first day coming in and booked a room only and then our package starts the next day.

I've been trying to add a day of free dining to my trip for November for quite a while (searching all the time) and looks like it's not happening.

Adding nights can be done as long as those nights are available under FD. If FD is offered for the time you want to go next year and you are still unsure of your dates, I'd book the dates you know for sure will work and then try to add on later. If you book the longer trip now and decide to take nights off, the shorter trip has to be available in order to modify. If the shorter trip isn't available under FD and you modify anyway, you will lose FD. You run the risk either way, IMO, but I'd rather book the shorter stay and not be able to add on due to availability, rather than book the longer stay and not be able to shorten it and have a trip with 3 extra nights that pushed the budget (just my opinion).

Book the 9 day trip and then take away days as the trip approaches.

This no longer works the way it used to. It was never a problem to shorten a trip in the past, but Disney has changed that procedure. The shorter trip must now be available as if it were a new booking, rather than a modification of an existing reservation. If the OP books 9 nights and then tries to shorten it to 6, those 6 nights must be available under the discount, otherwise it can't be modified without losing the discount.

Yep. I'm sure Disney got tired of having lots of stray nights being "orphaned".

We were able to add a day to our FD reservation last week, because it finally became available for the entire stay. We had tried to add a few times prior to last week and were never able to. But now my MDE is completely messed up and after countless calls this week, they can't fix it. So my current balance and all of that info never shows right. Oh well.
