hi all,

we will be going to disneyland for 8 days in december and are trying to decide which tickets to buy...

here in australia we can get a 14 day disneyland park hopper for $285... while we will only be there for 8 days, it's a relatively cheap ticket with all the access of a normal park hopper.

the alternative is to buy a 6 day hopper for $251, then try to add on a few days.

has anyone done this before? do you add extra days at the gate when you first present the ticket? is there information anywhere on how much adding an extra day to a 6day hopper would cost, per person? we are only 2 adults, with no discounts or APs.

any advice/assistance on adding extra days to the 6 day hopper would be hugely appreciated so that we can make a fair comparison :)

For ease of travel, I would just buy the 14-day hoppers for $285... Here's why:

Yes, if you buy a 6-day hopper online from Disneyland.com you get a special price of $251... HOWEVER, the gate cost of that ticket is $271. At DL, when you upgrade tickets, you pay the full difference between what you paid and the cost, so while it costs an extra $5 per day to add a day on top of your 6-day tickets, you'll also have to pay the $20 difference, meaning you'll get an 8-day hopper for $281. I'd rather just pay the $4 extra per ticket to not deal with having to go to a booth and spend time upgrading my tickets.

thanks for this awesome explanation -- it's this kind of comparison i was looking for - especially as it makes it easy to see the pros/cons of each option. the only thing is booking the tickets through disneyland means i can book a hotel + tickets package & get guaranteed toontown morning madness tickets -- buying the aussie park hopper tickets means i can only book a hotel room only package, and i have to take my chances with the toontown morning madness ticket list here on the DIS :)

ahh, the joys of pro/con lists when making decisions about disneyland.

thanks again though, this was hugely helpful :)

Just make sure you do a price comparison between the package (room & hotel) vs. the hotel and room separately. It is almost always cheaper to book separately than to book a package, sometimes by as much as several hundred dollars, in which case it's not worth an extra $500 to ME to get tickets for ToonTown Morning Madness.

Plus with price increases coming sometime, you don't want to pay for the price incease if they do that too. I would go with the 14 day ticket!!!

lol. yes, i think the 14 day ticket does also increase, but since it's a relatively small difference between booking through disneyland or travel agent for the tickts, versus buying the 14 day ticket... i think i'll just go with the ease of buying the 14 day ticket.

room + ticket package, or room only package + tickets seperately... much of a muchness in terms of pricing for our dates, so it's more of a convenience thing.

i think the 14 day hopper is still the way to go. that way we can add extra days to our stay if we want as well :)
