Adding DME from Australia

Hi everyone,

I know I've read the answer to this somewhere but I have searched and searched and cannot find it. We made our hotel reservation (Coronado Springs) a couple of months ago but at the time didn't book flights so couldn't give details for DME.

We've now booked our flights to and from MCO (domestic flights from New York and then to Vegas) and so would like to add them to our reservation. As we are in Australia, it can be costly to call overseas so we'd like to avoid that if possible. Is there a way we can add them online?

Also, I know that magic bands won't be shipped to us in Aus - but will luggage tags? We are leaving for the US about 9 days before we actually arrive at Disney, so I am hoping that if they are shipped they'll arrive at least 2 weeks before our actual Disney reservation. Is this likely?

Thanks! :D

They won't send you tags in the mail since you are an international guest, you unfortunately have to lug your bags yourself. They can be stored under the bus for the trip to your resort.

Thanks both of you - very helpful!
That sucks they won't post the tags. They should provide a printable option for overseas guests. I was really looking forward to the luggage service and being able to get straight on the bus! Surely it wouldn't be that hard to get them overseas...

From AUS, are you flying into an airport other than MCO? if so, provide them with the domestic flight info. You don't get luggage tags but you can give your claim tickets to the check in people at DME and they can arrange to get the luggage.

Also, you can bring your reservation paperwork and get on DME without premaking a reservation too.

Hi starry_solo,

Yes - we are flying into New York and spending a week there before heading to Orlando! Really excited now!

I didn't know that about the claim tickets... I am not sure if I would be too anxious doing it that way about my bags getting left behind. Has anyone had any success or horror stories doing it that way?

Thanks!

DME has been doing the claim check thing since the service started 15 years ago. Hundreds, if not thousands of people use it every single day. DME even has the instructions for using this option described in detail on the paperwork they send out to you. The number of reported problems using claim checks is very, very small. The risk of something going awry is no greater than using the yellow tags.

Disney reasonably works on the idea that most international guests are flying in directly from home, so luggage would have to be claimed by its owner and brought through Customs.
