Adding Dining to Room Only Reservation

I have 2 nights booked at AOA in September. I booked under the room only promo which ended July 31. I told the CM I wanted the dining plan, but wanted to add/pay for it later. He said that was fine as long as I called 2 day 48 hours before check in.

When the newpassholders rates came out I called and the rate was not any cheaper, it was actually more.

Fast forward to today, I called to add dining. He said I have to cancel my reservation and rebook in order to add dining. First he said I coudln't do it without making a package and adding tickets, but when I said we had Annual Passes he said ok. I'm not on hold.

Is this the proper way to do this? I am going to end up paying more $$ because the promotion ended July 31 and the dates don't go with the new Room Only offer out now.

If you booked under the GP discount and want the DDP, you have to add at least a 1 day base ticket for everyone in the room(s). The only way you can add the DDP without the ticket purchase is if you book rack rate and have an AP or book with an AP room discount. The CM is correct that the room only would have to be cancelled/refunded and a package booked requiring payment in full if you are 45 days or less from arrival. Also, the DDP must be added at least 3 days (72 hours) prior to arrival. DVC members staying on points can add it 2 days from arrival. You will probably have to speak with someone in guest services to make the change so you don't lose your discount as regular reservation CMs don't usually have access to expired promos to make such changes. Good luck.

Thanks I'm mixing up the 2 or 3 day thing because we are DVC too

So are you saying I can't do a GP rate within dining and room?

I HAVE to do an AP rate to do dining and room only?

Well I didn't know that and I've called Disney 3x to ask about it and no one has told me that. Darn it! It will now cost me $60 more to add dining..

1st time I called just to ask how you go about doing Room Only & Dining.. the only thing she told me was to call you can't do it online

2nd time was when I actually booked with the Room Only Discount that ended July 31

3rd time was when the Passholder rates were extended and I called to check the price.. but it was more money.

Each time I asked about the dining plan and adding it to the reservation. I was told to call back 3 days prior and I would be all set.

Good thing we have the DIS to get correct information.:thumbsup2

Have you decided against Tables in Wonderland? That usually works out better than buying the dining plan. The $60 extra to add dining can go towards the TIW card instead, and you can get a discount on everything, including apps and alcohol drinks. You won't be forced to buy dessert either like you are on the DP.

Just a thought - that would make it MUCH easier than finagling around to get the dining plan.
