Adding days to park hoppers

I've got a question I hope my DL DISers can help me with. As I posted once before, we're heading down for Anniversary week, July 10th-18th. Though we'd really like to have 6 days of admission to the parks, there is a significant difference in the prices between 5 and 6 days that is making me a little wary about it. Our 6th day would be either half a day when we arrive or the half a day that we leave, so I really didn't want to pay $50 extra for half a day.

Just to point out - the official Disney site offers passes that are pretty good deals, and each day is about $10 more than the one before it. Unfortunately, they only sell to 5 days online, and I called up to see if they offered 6 day discounts, and the answer was no.

My question:

Can I purchase the 5 day passes at the discounted rate and then upgrade to the 6 days once we get there? I thought I read that you can add days on without penalty, that your original ticket price would just go towards the new tickets.

Do you think this would work? Would they charge us the difference between the gate 5 day and gate 6 day, or the difference between the discounted 5 day and the gate 6 day?

TIA!

Sorry I can't answer your question and sorry to hear Disney wouldn't sell you a 6-day hopper. Perhaps you might want to schedule a day in the middle of your trip to relax, sleep-in, visit DTD and Goofy's Kitchen.

We got 5 day hopper tickets through Mary Jo/WDTC. She told us that we could upgrade to 6 days at the WDTC office in DTD. I called last weekend and confirmed this with the WDTC office in DTD.

I was told that I would need my booking number and the tickets. The WDTC is open everyday.

Thanks for the info - that's one question answered. I guess we'll go with the 5 days and then just play it by ear. I've never upgraded before - do you know how it works? Do you use them for a day or two and then trade them in? Do you have to upgrade prior to activating them? Any idea as to how the difference in price would be handled? (From what you said, I imagine they'd charge me the full $50 or so difference, right?)

Also, thanks for the advice about taking a day off. We actually have a couple of those built into our stay, but with all of the anniversary things planned, we were hoping to spend as many days as possible in the parks, even if just for a little while. That's why we love the length of stay passes at WDW - we can go into the parks, even if just for a meal or fireworks - and it doesn't feel like we're "wasting" an admission.

I have heard that you can indeed upgrade. But you would pay the difference between the price you paid and the undiscounted price. So I am not sure if you would be any better off that way.

I think you should be fine with 5 days. We usually do 3 and feel that that is "perfect." 2 days doesn't seem like enough and 4+ just seems too much.
