Adding days to a park hopper

Does anyone know how adding days to a park hopper works? I know you can add days as long as the ticket has not expired and before the end of the last day.
Does anyone know if you get a new pass or are they able to add the days to pass being used?

When I did this a few years back we were given new tickets. That was before they started taking everyone's picture though so I don't know if they would do it differently now.

And keep in mind that the total number of days still cannot exceed 5.
