I was just wondering if adding a celebration to your dining reservation (mine are all booked online) makes a difference?

It's my BF's 10 year old son's first visit and I've noted this in all the reservations I've made. Just curious. :goodvibes

Thanks!

I'd like to know this too. We are celebrating both of our girls birthdays on our trip and I've noted them on all of our character meals.

Yes, if it is a birthday you will usually get a free cupcake. Make sure to remind the hostess when you check in that you are celebrating something. They don't always remember. At Chef Mickey's we also got an autographed placemat.

So you can add a celebration to your dining both online and through the phone?

I had always just heard you had to add a celebration through the phone, but if you can make it online, that is convenient!

But is it true that if you want to add a celebration for a room reservation you have to call on that? Or is there a place to add that online as well?

I made all my dining reservations online and there was an option to add a celebration.

You're not going to get much for a first visit. Maybe just a lot of greetings. You can't expect free stuff on birthdays either but it's nice when they do it.

I surprised my daughter with it being her birthday at both LTT and Rose & Crown.

At LTT, they had confetti on the table when we sat down and our waiter whispered to ask me whose birthday it was. Not sure what they were planning otherwise, because we ordered a dessert. When they brought it out, Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake - they sang "Happy Birthday" and it had Mickey confetti.

At Rose & Crown, there were 2 actual birthdays sitting near each other, so the restaurant made a big deal of that. But Trisha received a card signed by all the castmembers, which she thought was even more special!

even if it is on all your reservations, you cannot count on anything extra...it may happen, but it may not. I would not expect to get more than hearing "congratulations" or "Happy Birthday" from one or more of the people in the restaurant.

Sometimes you get pixie dust & they decorate the table with confetti & bring out a cupcake. Or they decorate the saucer on your dessert you're paying for...we were on dining plan so desserts came with our meals. A couple of places served the dessert I ordered and the chef had written "Happy Birthday" in the fancy sauce on the cheesecake or whatever. But just as often I just heard "happy Birthday" or they put a candle in the dessert I was getting anyway. Some places just said Happy Birthday. We've been there on numerous birthday occasions (including 2 birthdays in the year Celebrating was the big promotion) and our experience was about 1/3 of the places brought out the extra cupcake. Maybe one place in an entire week decorated the table with a bit of Mickey confetti. I talked with a lady who was there celebrating her birthday, and not on the dining plan. She was wearing the Happy Birthday pin but said she just was told Happy Birthday, never offered anything extra.

Cool, thanks everyone.

I would be grateful if some pixie dust was sprinkled on the 10 year old! This kid is totally NOT excited about going! :confused3

it depends on the restaurant and time they have on hand more then anything. Don't expect anything but hope for a little extra. My girls got a signed card too from the Princesses this fall at Akershus and they actually made a big deal out of it because they are triplets. I was really surprised aas we were expecting anything other then people wishing happy b-day

We noted it was DD's 4th birthday when we were at WDW 12/12-12/17, her actual birthday was 12/17. All of the character meals gave her a cupcake with confetti and she got a signed birthday card at Chef Mickey, Askerhus, Crystal Palace, and Tusker House. At Le Celier they gave her the moose dessert with Happy Birthday written in chocolate around the plate. And the first night at our hotel, they brought her a white chocolate mickey mouse that said Happy Birthday with a birthday card from Mickey. I was impressed with all of the celebrations she got :)

Really don't count on anything. I had my 40th birthday listed on all the ADRs and nothing for any of our 8 ADRs. We spent part of our trip at Universal at the Hard Rock Hotel and they sent up a beautiful piece of cake with a card and pin plus a coupon for a free app or ice cream sundae at a resort restaurant. At PO-FQ I got an empty unsigned generic celebrations card left in our room that didn't even have a character photo in the frame side :P
