Hi, all!

The first time we cruised with Disney last year, we added one adult to our cabin and had absolutely no issues doing so. We had a cabin with verandah initially for two adults, and added a friend to make it three adults.

This time, we are looking to book over a year out -- December 2017. I am using a TA this time as my career organization offers a 5% discount if we book with this company. Right now, one cabin is definitely going to be myself (an adult) and my boyfriend (a second adult). We are unsure if my boyfriend's daughter (who will be 8 at the time of cruising) will be able to go with us this far out. We do not want to pay the additional deposit now, and would rather just add her on next spring (or summer, at the latest -- before final payment is due.)

The TA, though, has told me that it is easier to remove someone than add someone to the cabin. Can someone verify if this is accurate? If it is, we will go ahead and pay the higher deposit now, but just wanted verification prior to doing so.

Thanks, everyone!

It is definitely a good idea to add them now and try to remove them later. While it is a cautious approach there is a chance that when you go to add them next Spring there isn't enough space for her age group or the muster stations. There are a lot of times where you could book a stateroom for 3 adults but then try to book that same room for 2 adults and a child of a certain age and there is no availability as they can only have so many in each age group for the kids. I would book with anyone that might be going now and change it later.

Yes, it's easier to remove a person than add one.

When you want to add a person DCL asks 3 questions:
1) Is there space in the room? (Can't put 4 people in a 3 person room)
2) Is there space in the lifeboat assigned to that room? (If the other rooms assigned to the lifeboat have filled all the space, they won't put someone in your room, even if there's a bed available).
3) Is there space in the appropriate kid's club? (if applicable)

If the answer is "no" to any of these questions, then you can't add someone to your reservation. You may be able to add them, if you change rooms, however. Except if the "no" was due to the kid's club issue.

I'll also point out that adding a person later - that person's cost is the prevailing cost for them at the time you add them, not the price they would have been on the original reservation.

As long as you cancel them before the Paid In Full date, if necessary, you'll get all the money back that's related to their portion of the reservation.

It is definitely easier and cheaper to drop a person than add-on, especailly before the paid in full date. The reason you should reserve the spot now is not only to lock in a cheaper rate, but also to guarantee that you can have her in the cabin. Just because there is a bed available in the cabin, it does not mean you can book a person in there later as the lifeboat situation may not allow for it. There are only so many lifeboat spots available at a muster station, fewer than all of the available beds in the cabins assigned that muster station, so if larger parties (in number) book up all of the spots, your current room may not have availability to add someone later.

Once again, PrincessShmoo is all over it before me and has an even greater argument. I didn't even think about the Kids Club limits.

FYI - Verify how the discount is given. TAs cannot discount cruise rates for DCL - only pass down the discounts in forms of on-board credit.

If you want to limit the deposit and don't need a specific stateroom, book a lower category. Prices are locked in on the day you book, so if you upgrade a category later but prices went up, you'll be paying the difference based on the prices of the day you booked originally.

That said, if you add a person later, that person will pay those new rates.
