My GF and I are sharing the cost of DVC but only my name is on the contract. That's the way she wanted it. Is it possible to get her name added to our existing contract?

Thanks.

I wouldn't add a name unless it was necessary, because adding or deleting a name is sort of like buying a contract. We added my husband's name to one of our contracts, and it's a sort of like a closing. It cost about $300 + $150, a closing company to file the necessary papers with Orange County, and papers had to be filed with Disney. The biggest headache was that before we could do any of that, we had to pay our dues in full (we were paying by the month). You can call Member Accounting, and they will go over everything, but it's much more involved than you can imagine, hence the closing company. The closing company is optional, depending upon whether or not you can sort thru how to file in Orange Co., and how to file with Disney. I think Disney's cost alone is $150 which you will pay no matter what, Orange County cost $50, and the closing company' s cost to handle everything was $250. :earseek:

Just my opinion, so take it for what it's worth- BUT, I would not put my girlfriend on any legal type documentation. It just seems as though there is too much at stake should you separate.
That being said, if you get married I would pay the price and do things properly, as Cruelladeville has discussed. Then again, my wife would absolutely CROWN me if I had a DVC contract without her on it. :headache:

Good luck...

strongly recommend you do not even consider it...............

We were told by MS after we closed that you can request in writing that another person be added to the account to be able to call and make ressies, however not an owner or on the deed. I forget if she would be able to bank or borrow. I would think this would be a nice mid point compromise. I think we've all seen too much Judge Judy and know what COULD happen, but hope not.

If your girlfriend is sharing the cost, I don't understand why she didn't want her name on the contract. Or was the decision to share the cost after the contract was already written?

I'm of the opinion that unless there is a marriage, it's better for all parties involved NOT to have multiple names on a deed. There's just too much room for serious problems and legal consequences down the road. Save the name change on the deed for a wedding present (or better yet... a first anniversary present ;) ).

So what happens when you die and the kids get our DVC timeshare, will they have to change the names on the contract and how much will that cost.......but I don't plan on going for another 38 years even though I would be 92 by then

you can add her as an associate member - no she is not entitled to the annual pass - but she can make reservations.

D'oh! That's why I was asking. Oh, well, so much for that avenue.

Yea - I know what you mean - my brother is my Associate member and he lives in another state - so I called MS to see if the discount applied to him - NO.

Although if your fiance has your address then DVC might give her the annual pass discount. I would definitely ask.
