Adding a person to an ADR

My MIL just decided to join us for a few days at WDW. We currently have an ADR for lunch at Brown Derby for 5 (2A/3C). We will now need a table for 6 (3A/3C). Do I need to call to try to up the reservation, or can we just show up as a party of 6? My guess is that any table that will seat 5 will also seat 6.

You can't just add a person, there has to be availability for the new party number. Most likely they will allow you to seat an extra person, but there is an outside chance that the restaurant will be full and the extra person would be turned away. The best thing to do is start hunting for a comparable reservation or 6.

I table of 5 can be a table of 4 and just have a person sitting at the end. Like a pp said, keep trying for a table of 6.

I don't think i have ever seen 5 at a table for 4 at Disney. YMMV

We repeatedly see results of folks htat have added a person to their ADR. Easier to go from odd to even, nad can't count on it of course, but i can't recall the last time I read of anyone turned away

Most Disney restaurants don't have room to add a chair to the end of a table. The best thing is to get an ADR for the correct number of guests. Showing up with an extra, and flinging yourselves on the mercy of the CMs should be the last resort.

If you do that, have a plan for what you will do if the extra person cannot be seated. If you walk away from your ADR you will still be charged the no show fee. Would one person be ok with eating somewhere else on their own?

I agree I was just commenting on OPs comment that she may have been counting on a party of 5 would be seated at a table meant for 6 - and therefore have the room for the 6th ADR guest she was looking to add

How did you call the restaurant directly? Do they all have direct numbers? I have a similar issue for a different restaurant and would love to try calling as well .

Same restaurant for us, have 2 want to add a child. Probably impossible trying to go from 2 top to 4 top but I will just try showing up if it comes to that, 5:45 is too early for dinner anyway so I wouldn't mind waiting.

Just so you are aware if they can't seat you as a party of 3, you will lose $20 if you walk away.

Yes I know, but I could always "reschedule" it for later in the week then cancel later. Not exactly kosher but then neither is not being able to get restaurant reservations 6 flippin months in advance.

Disney doesn't do "rescheduling". They cancel and book. If you don't cancel by midnight the night before your ADR you will pay the no show fee if you decide to walk away from that meal. If they can't seat your extra guest and you decide to walk away from that ADR booking the same restaurant (assuming you even can) won't keep you from paying the no show fee.

You hadn't mentioned the t was a Fantasmic package. You won't be able to add one at checkin since Fantasmic tickets are limited. Plus, it's early because that's the point of the package; get people in the restaurant during off hours, and the tickets are only valid for the first performance.
