Adding a day to tickets with pre-purchased Maxpass?

We are going to be at DLR this July. We’re flying in on the 3rd and planning 3 full days at the parks the 4th-6th. I’m going to purchase 3-day Park Hopper tickets from Disney, and was just going to add MaxPass upfront because I know we will want it for our 3 full days.

However, our flight lands at 12:30pm on the 3rd. If we decide we want to go to the park that evening, am I correct that I can add a 4th day to our tickets at the gate? And what about MaxPass? I don’t think we’ll want it for just a partial day at the parks but can I choose not to activate my pre-purchased one that night, so I will still have 3 full days of MaxPass? I’d rather buy the 3 days of MaxPass up front but if that will make it harder to potentially add a day *without* it, I may not.

How did you pre pay for maxpass? I was told 2 days ago I couldnt when I booked my vacation :(

I think it would probably automatically activate a MaxPass day if you were to enter using the 3-day ticket on your partial day. Just thinking now, if you prepay for MaxPass, it has to be for your whole visit, not just a couple days. So I would say just get it each morning if you really don’t want it that partial day.

One thing I would be worried about would be a possible increase in price. Now, there have been no rumors about this, just theorized that Disney may realize they may be able to increase the price and people will still get it. By July MP will have been in place for a year. That could be too early for a price increase (they may wait until SWGE opens), but it is still possible.

I booked through disney and when I asked they said its not available for packages yet. looks like I'll be calling again tomorrow for another thing..

You can buy your tickets separately. I don't think you save one red cent buying them in a package.

They actually upcharge you to add tickets to a hotel package. Meaning, when you click to add park tickets to your hotel they add more than the face value of the tickets. It might vary by ticket type, but when I recently checked they added approximately 5% to the ticket price. They don’t itemize so it’s not easy to tell that this is happening.

I never buy a package - you do not save - whether it's through AAA, a travel company, an airline or Disney - there might have been benefits in the past but I don't think they still exists - in fact when you do buy a package then you are paying someone to do that work for you - so in reality maybe it should cost more as it's more work to book your flight, hotel and tickets and car rental all separately - but by doing so you save money. Also, when you buy a package you normally are locked in much tighter than if you book all other things separately. I can cancel my hotel and car at basically the last minute, I can get a travel bank credit for my flight and I don't have to buy my park tickets until the end of next month when the 25% off deal with Disney ends. So if something comes up I can back out of this trip - but if you buy a package you often also have to buy cancellation insurance to have such flexibility. Anyway, I know this is off topic but I'd recommend just buying the tickets on your app and booking hotel alone.

Hmm, good point about the possible price increase. I’m still gathering up discounted Disney GCs to pay for the tickets so I’m not quite ready to buy them yet, but I’ll keep an eye on the sites for price increase chatter.

On the topic of buying a package, I also don’t think they save you money. The only times I’ve bought a package was for the free dining plan promotion at Disney World. For Disneyland I don’t think a package makes sense at all, especially with so many offsite hotel options really close to the parks. We’re going to use points to pay for our offsite hotel, so that part of the trip is essentially free. I also used points to book our flights. The most expensive part of this trip is going to be the park tickets!

Yeah, for packages, they really don't save any money! At least at DLR and WDW, unless you need it for some deal, but that is a special circumstance. I do know you can pre-purchase MaxPass even if you don't have a package, because my friend bought his 3-day PH w/MP and he was staying at another friend's house.

This is just my guess, but I would assume it would go something like this—the MaxPass would start the first day you use the ticket. If on day 3 you decide to add a day, you would just manually add MaxPass on the 4th day. In other words, as soon as everyone scans in for the day, you would go to the app, click the MaxPass button and then it would ask you to pay. If you already have your credit card linked to your app—handy how they do that—you just have to enter your 3 digit code on the back of your card and presto, MaxPass is activated for the day. We just got back yesterday from our trip and I manually added ours each day. It sometimes took 60 seconds after the last person went through for it all to “catch up.” Your tickets will already be loaded onto your app for that 4th day so it should be very seamless.

Enjoy your trip!
