Has anyone ever added someone to a reservation right before sailing? How did the docs work just pick them up at port- do you experience any problems? I know that limited availabilty may be one of the issues. Here is my problem...
We just decided yesterday to take along my husbands father who has never sailed DCL. We asked him to locate birth certificate before making the annoucement of what we are trying to do. He found the hospital issued one but it is not from the state so in order to take him along HE has to order his bc which may not get here in time even with express mail-- will try to do that today!!! . I kind of want to hold off on adding him and paying the money until we have the actual certified state issued cert with raised seal otherwise we will be out the $$$ we paid to add him if we don't get it. I really need some extra special pixie dust to make this happen. He was born in NJ we are in Florida can't just drive down and get BC.

I would call the cruise lines to ask this important of a question.
They may not have a room available at the last minute, so he may have to share in your room, if you have the room,(according to how many are in your room already). If he was in your room, I can see no reason why he couldnt go, I do believe I did read a couple of threads where people picked up the documents at the Terminal, at check in. I'm sure this happens more often than you think it does. Even people forgetting their tickets, they have to have some way for guests to get on board .
We did book at last minute cruise for DH and myself, the doc came just before we had to leave, but I'm sure if they didnt arrive in time that we could of called DCL and then picked them up at the terminal.
Hope he can go!

According to your post, you are sailing 9/1/05. That's 3 weeks away! The closest we ever booked a cruise was less than 72 hours! Yes, you pick up your documents at the port.

Since you are adding an adult, there will be no problem as long as there is room in your cabin. If adding a child, you need room both in your cabin and in the appropriate age group. If you are requesting an additional cabin, that is totally dependent on availability--you can check the internet to get an idea of whether something is open.

Good luck--a phone call to the appropriate state office along with overnighting the forms and fees might help. Try to get a name and address you stuff specifically to that person.

You can print off blank docs from the DCL website and fill them in before you leave home....

Just remember...if he is in a cabin by himself, there is a hefty single supplement surcharge....something like 175% of the cruise fare.

There may not be room. It is true with children that there are limits on certain age groups etc.

But there are also other limits. The ship could not sail with the maximum number in each cabin. That would be the ship well over its maximum occupancy. The biggest item here is space in the life boats at each muster station etc. DCL knows that many cabins will always be below their max occupancy (2 people in a room that could slepp 3 etc.). If putting one more person in your stateroom would exceed the capacity for the ship or your specific muster station, then you won't be able to do it.

So just because there is room in your stateroom, doesn't mean that there is room on the ship. You may want to call and find out if it would be possible and find out what is the latest you could make the addition.

There is always hope. I have read on these boards about people paying at the port the day of the cruise and getting on the ship. I haven't dealt with this personally but I wanted to wish you luck.

do you have any family still in nj that could go pick it up and express mail it to you? my bil was able to pick up one for everyone in my family.
:wizard: wishing you luck!

You are going on the same cruise we are. Make a thread about someone who lives in the town he was born in and see if a wonderful DIser would be willing to purchase and next day you the BC. You in return next day a check for cost!

I hope it works out for you either way!

We placed the order for the birth certificate now we must wait and hope and pray and wait some more and pray lots more and trust that everything will work out!! Thanks to all who have offered suggestions. Hopefully this post will have a magical and wonderful "and they lived happlily ever after" ending.
:)

I had to order my birth certificate because I had lost mine years ago. Since i am not cruising until nex year I know I need a passport, so I finally sent for my bc ( my husband says I procrastinate!!! but I am not the one that hasn't put a closet door on in our bedroom yet even though we have lived here for over 20 years!!!! :rolleyes1 oops back to the origianl subject) :teeth: I applied for it online and I got it within a week. The sight said 7 to 10 days but it arrived before that. Good Luck!! I will throw pixie dust your way. that you all will be sailing together!! :boat:
