I also live in New Hampshire and i was thinking of doing the same. Or using it at SSR, OKW, BWV, or Poly for the first night at Disney before our longer stays at RIV or CC. I don’t fly anymore so the first day is always just a relaxing reset before starting the real vacation. We just picked up 30 HHI points for a 2-5 night stop on the way from NH to WDW. It's important for us to have the 11 month advantage and I don't care that I'm paying another $1 PP for MF's! We'll get either 2 nights in a 1 BR or 5 in a Studio in January without banking/borrowing. It was a perfect contract at a great price and is OCT UY which is our main UY. I'd definitely buy enough to cover your needs.
I love this plan! It’s break up the monotony of driving and we can all take turns. I picked up a small HHI contract because I wanted to start doing long weekends there, but more importantly wanted the “stop in HHI along the way” option. I’m in MA and so not far away.We are still flying out of MHT, but once we switch to January we'll drive (well DH will drive and I'll tell him where to go!)
Just thinking disboard friends, we could rent a bus and @Lorana would you join us?? Just stop in each State on the way down until the bus is full LOL! I so NEED a vacation!!

You must have purchased this resale. From what I understand if you buy direct from DVC it has to be the same use year as your contract, or one of your contracts if you own multiple use years.I think it would depend on if it is the same UY that you currently own. I bought a 25 point contract in a different UY with the intention of adding more for that UY, otherwise it would not have been worth it to me.

It isn’t difficult to use, when it is the same use year. Borrowing right now at 50%, that’s 13 points. That won’t get you a studio most of the year at most resorts for 1 night. Banking and borrowing 100% gives you a few nights in a studio, but that is 1 stay every 3 years

Thought it was only half of the reservation could be borrowed, not you can only borrow half of next year's points... Is that true?Right now you can only borrow 1/2 your next year's points. Maybe a night or two in a studio, but not much more.
You can borrow only 50% of the points in a given contract. If one contract is 50 points, you can borrow 25, no more. If you have a 100 point contract you can borrow 50 points. Etc. It has really messed up a lot of people’s trip planning.Thought it was only half of the reservation could be borrowed, not you can only borrow half of next year's points... Is that true?

To add, if you have more than one home resort and contract, it won’t let you borrow more than 50% on one of them and leave the other one while.
For example, I am capped at 88 of my 175 RIV and 150 of my 300 SSR. So if I wanted more points to use at 11 months at RIV, I can’t cant borrow all them and leave SSR.
It means that you can only borrow 50% from each contract, not from the total number of points you have.I am not sure what exactly you mean by this. And leave the other one while.
Could you try to explain again? Are you trying to say you can only make a reservation with one contract at a time?
thanks, I get it. It definitly changes the way I will book my next trip. I guess I will have to hope there is still some availability at 7 months so I can use my other contract to supplement. It means that you can only borrow 50% from each contract, not from the total number of points you have.
Let's say you have 100 points, 50 points at RIV and 50 points at SSR. At the 7 month mark, you want to make a reservation that costs 150 points, so you'd need to borrow 50. The borrowing restriction is on the CONTRACT, not on the MEMBERSHIP. So you couldn't borrow 50 SSR points -- it is 50% of the total membership points, but it's 100% of the SSR contract, and you can only borrow 50% per contract. So if you were borrowing those 50 points, you'd need to do 25 from RIV and 25 from SSR.
I think Sandisw meant "whole" instead of "while." Maybe?I am not sure what exactly you mean by this. And leave the other one while.
