adderall question

Not sure if anyone can provide me an educated answer on this one, but I'll shoot...
have a friend that started taking adderall last week. As he's increased his dosage (per nurse's orders) he's gotten increasingly irritable and tired. Today this person is downright mean. I am concerned that this is due to his medication, but he's too mad to see through to recognize his behavior.
Anyone ever seen this before? Let me know.

I can't say for certain it's the medication, but my sister is on adderall and I don't know who she is anymore. She suddenly became extremely tired, anorexic, anxiety ridden and deeply depressed. I've read of other cases similar to these but I'm sure your friend will insist as my sister does that the two couldn't possibly be related

Thanks. I just worry. He's been sleeping a lot, and today he yelled at me about nonsense in his sleep, but kept insisting he was awake. Then he got this really angry tone of voice and very loudly & adamantly told me to leave him alone, that he had a bad day at work, and that he didn't want to talk. But it wasn't normal irritation... it was liek he was a whole different person, a child. I am really worried that this medication is having an awful effect.

My daughter went through mood changes on Adderall so we took her off of it. If he's on it due to ADD,he might want to try Concerta,which has fewer incidences of mood swings.

Is he taking regular Adderrall or extended release? Sometimes when the Adderall wears off, the person could develop a huge mood swing. My DS takes 30 mg XR (extended release). He started out with 20 mg for a few years, then 25, and now 30. Now he also take an additional 15mg of regular Adderall at 3 pm because the XR would wear off early.

It might be mood swings from when it wears off. He should discuss this with his doctor. If it is due to his prescription, they could adjust it or he can try something else.

Try the concerta-it has helped many people who have the mood swing problem. It's really a night and day difference.

Hmm, I take adderall, and before I started taking it I was unable to concentrate and I was sleepy a lot of the time. Now that I do take it I'm better focused.. When I first started taking it, it would make me lose my appetite, and I would be really really jumpy and hyper, but not so much anymore.

We just started meds for ADHD for my oldest DH over Christmas break. Started on Concerta and it was great except he couldn't sleep. He would be up till 1:30-2:00am, even on school nights. So last week dr. said try Adderall. We tried it for 4 days and pulled him off. He was angry and mean, would have major meltdowns and break into tears daily, said he hated his life. I'm convinced it was the medicine. He has been back on Concerta for 2 days and all is well - except the sleep thing. I will deal with the sleep issue as long as I have my son back.

He's going to cal his Dr. tomorrow and see what can be done. I just know he is NOT himself.

Family member (adult male) took it for 9 days,
doctor told him to stay on it for several weeks "to see",
but the patient wanted "to kill someone" by the 4th day!!
The 9th day was the day I threw out the bottle
and had him contact a new doctor.
I got flashbacks reading the "mean... angry... not themselves"
posts here.
This guy is normally gentle, just scattered in his thinking.
This medication will never be allowed back in our house!

My son is on Adderall, 10 mg a day for ADHD. We've tried others, and this seems to the only that really works for him. However, I have been on Concerta for myself (adult ADD). Worked great for focusing and staying on task, however by the end of the first week I was feeling very irritable for the slightest things, and by the end of week two I was raging to the point of throwing things and cursing at my dh. I did a research of that medication and found that irritability and rage is a pretty common side effect with Concerta. Needless to say I took myself off of that asap!
