We were just on the 7 night cruise and inquired about adding on points at the VWL. We were told that if we add on points, we would have to use the 2000 points by Oct (our use year) because we have already banked the all of our 2000 points and we are now at the 50% banking deadline. Here's a little history: we bought 150 points in March and banked all the 2000 points at that time. We now want to add on points before the price increase and VWL selling out. We won't be able to go to WDW before Oct. Can't we do a one time banking when we buy the points like we did when we bought the first set of points even though we're past the banking deadline? I'm a little confused, plus it just doesn't seem fair.

We were in a similar situation when we added on 50 points (price was going from 65 to 67 at that time). Guide and MS told us that we couldn't bank them (past the deadline). This is also when I learned about the rule that you couldn't make a reservation for one of the Disney hotels within 60 days of the end of your use year. I didn't think that was fair, either! We decided to get the points anyway. I was very surprised when I called MS to see if deal had closed and to see if the new points were reflected in the computer. MS banked the points for me, no problem. I admit I didn't ask a lot of questions so I don't know if I had someone new, if my guide had "worked a special deal", or if MS just used the "secret, once in a lifetime, special, don't ever ask again" banking exception. I was just happy about getting those points that I hadn't expected.

Anyway. it could happen to you, too.

Another possibility to consider is renting those points you can't use before they expire. At the time we purchased I didn't know about "renting". Assuming you close sometime relatively soon, I think there is a good chance you could find someone to use those points for something like $8 - $12 a point. $10 a point is reportedly the most common amount charged. Getting the rental fee might make you feel better about "losing" those add on points. And of course, you will then have the use of them for the next 41 years.

Good Luck!
