Can anyone tell me what determines use year for an add on is?
Is it determined by the use year of your original points or is it determined by what use year is being assigned when you purchase the add on? Or is it something else mysterious I haven't thought of yet. Also does anyone know what use year is being assigned currently.
Thanks

I know people who have bought add-ons that have a different use year, but I think you are much better off buying an add-on with the same use year as your original contract because it will be much easier to keep track of your points.

I had thought it was based on availabilty. If your current use year is available then it will become part of the same contract...thereby only one payment for dues. If it's not available then it would be a seperate contract with two sets of dues. Maybe someone else may know better??

I did buy an add-on and was told I would get the same use year no matter what. If you buy through a timeshare broker you will get the use year that you buy.

If you're buying less the 150 points the use year must be the same as your original contract. If you're buying more the 150 points it could be treated like a new contract and can be any use year. This would probably only be done if your original use year was sold out.

Heck Disney is even letting people buy 50 point contracts from resale and not the 150 minimum that everyone has been told.

The minimum to buy through DVC is 150 points. They are more likely to excercise the Right of First Refusal for non members at less than 150 points but have let at least a couple go through. They will generally not interfere if you are an owner even if it's a different use year. I have never heard of DVC selling an add on of other than your use year but the POS gives the option of selling a different use year only if your use year is not available.

Add-ons through DVD, regardless of number of points, will have the same use year you already have, although you can buy 150 or more and set it up as new contract with different use year. If your use year is sold out they can sell you a different use year regardless of number of points although they try to hold points in a given use year month for those in that month.

Through resale you get whatever use year the seller has. DVD has right to buy and may excercise it if you purchase low amount through resale (below 150) and are a new purchaser; own experience is that when I bought lower point add-on through resale with different use year, DVD did not exercise right of purchase but I was existing member at time with greater than 150 points otherwise.
