If I own at one resort, why add on at another? Do you get to reserve 11 months out at either resort? do they need to be the same use year? How do resales work with add-ons? I'm an amateur at this. Please help?

Well, I just found out that our offer to buy through a reseller was approved by Disney - they did not exercise their right of first refusal.

Our initial points are at OKW. We love the VWL and we wanted to get points there.

We can now reserve at the VWL 11 months out with our WL points or reserve at OKW 11 months out. We know we are now assured at least a partial stay at our resort of choice - VWL - assuming we act 11 months out. Once we use our VWL points, we may be able to stay using our OKW points, but worst case scenario is we would have to move to OKW for a part of our stay.

They do not need to be the same use year - but we wanted it that way so that it is easier to keep track of all the points. You will actually wind up with two, three etc., contracts. It could get a little complicated keeping track!!

I used Jaki Apetz for the VWL points that I am currently closing on. The web site is: http://www.atimeshare.com/disney/
So far, I would highly recommend Jaki and I have seen many posts about the sponsor of this web site as well.

We own at two resorts. OKW because it is the best value in the system and we really enjoy how well it was done. BCV was bought to get the 11 month window for BCV for December bookings.

That's the primary reason. But there can also be other practical reasons as well. SSR has contracts that extend another 12 years over the other DVC resorts--SSR ends in 2054 while the others are all at 2042.

The dues will also vary from one resort to another. I believe OKW is still the lowest. If you like to stay at OKW, why pay the higher dues for another resort?

So, if I had 150pts at HH and decided to add on 50pts at VWL, I could reserve 11 months out at VWL. And use all 200pts there? I also heard that if you buy add-on pts directly from Disney, they require all pts be of the same use year. Correct?

There have been other posts about this and the concensus seems to be that only your VWL points can be used for the 11 month window. Don't know if that's how it really works though as I have two separate contracts rather than add-ons. Will be interested in what other people have to say and how things have actully worked as I am considering add-on at SSR and it could affect how many points I purchase.

Only the points at that resort can be used at the 11 month window, so only BWV points can be used to book at the 11 month window at BWV, you have to save the other points till the 7 month window to use them. I have 700 points, and believe me, it's still a challenge getting the points together to get the accommodations I want at the 11 month window. I try to alternate contracts and add-ons so I can do what I want.

Also, if you add on thru Disney, you must keep the same use year as your main contract. It's a lot easier that way, but you can get a different use year if you go resale. I would think twice about that. I have 3 separate contracts with add-ons, and it's always complicated when I make ressies at the 11 month window. If you normally book at the 7 month window, then you have really simplified things a lot. I have 110 point add on at BCV, and I just hate it--it's not enough, and it's not at BWV, where all my other points are. And with banking and borrowing, I really have to watch to make sure those points don't get lost in the shuffle.
