My husband and I are thinking about buying dvc directly from Disney. I wanted to know how does an add on work? When you add on points does it add on to your home resort or can you add on point on a diffrent resort.

You can add points from any of the DVC resorts. Many here on the DIS have multiple home resorts........

I own at several resorts. In general you get the same UY, however you might b on a wait list for the resorts that are sold out...its pretty easy though.

You can add on at any resort. The minimum add-on is 25 points if you are paying cash or 50 points if you want Disney financing.

If you own at two different resorts, when booking 11 months out you can only use points from the resort you are trying to book. For example if you purchase 160 points at SSR and add on 25 points at BCV and want to book BCV 11 months out, you can only use the 25 BCV points to do so. You can use banking and borrowing to accumulate up to 3 years worth of points, so in this case you would have 25 BCV points to use every year or 50 BCV points to use every other year or 75 points to use every third year.

Add-on purchases are ALWAYS the same use year. You can add on at any resort which has points available, but only if the points are available in your use year. You cannot add-on points from a different use year.

To get a different use year, it requires a new minimum of 160 points purchased, and it is not an add-on at all, but a new master contract with a different membership number.
