Hi all... I have some questions regarding an add on purchase:

First - the background: We have 200 points at BCV. We bought through resale and we bought BEFORE resale contracts got amended to not include DCL, Concierge, etc...

We are looking to add on more points and looking at several options so here are my questions:

1) If I buy 100 BCV points direct from Disney (assuming Disney has them for sale) - can I have these points added into my EXISTING BCV contract - or will it be an additional contract?

2) if I buy BLT through resale, can I transfer my current BCV points in to BLT (or visa versa) as long as I only do it once a year and....

3) ...If I do transfer from one contract to another - do the points transferred IN assume the use year of the contract they are transfered in to - or do I need to pay attention to the 7 month window with regard to the transferred points (in which case - why bother transferring?)...

Thanks in advance for any help,
rljslo

#3. Transferred points retain their home resort and use year. They don't turn into the other resort's points, so you can't use them to book there at 11 months.

#1 it will be a different contract, regardless, but if it is same resort, same use year, and you have the same people on the title, you can add them to your current member number and they will appear as one contract for booking/transfer purposes.

#2 see #3

#3 no, transferred points retain their home resort and use year. I'm not sure it's a huge advantage, but you could make a single reservation instead of linking two reservations, but I think that's about it's...

1 Yes as long as they are the same UY.
2 Why would you, all points can be used to book anywhere at 7 months.
3 It's 7 months from check in, not anything to do with UY.

Title the new contract the same as the existing and get the same UY. The new contract will be added to your existing account and membership.

The only advantage to transferring points between contracts with seperate home resorts is to be able to combine them at the 7 month check in window to make one reservation using the full set of points. It also helps to prevent getting a few points stuck in a UY under one membership.

Of course, at the 7 month window you can make reservations anywhere, so the home resort of the points is irrelevant.

if you "add on" (in other words, if it is titled the same and has the same UY month - whether you add-on directly or by resale), it will be included under the same membership number. and since the contracts both have the same UY and same home resort, they will essentially function as a single contract when booking (i.e. you can pool 6 pts from one contract with 8 pts from the other to book a single night's stay for 14 pts).

there is no situation where the 2 contracts would actually be combined into a single contract. while the add-on will function with the master contract as if it were a single contract, each contract can be sold or willed separately.

3) ...If I do transfer from one contract to another - do the points transferred IN assume the use year of the contract they are transfered in to - or do I need to pay attention to the 7 month window with regard to the transferred points (in which case - why bother transferring?)...

if you have separate home resorts, you can never, ever combine pts to book at the 11 month window. you can only use BCV pts to book BCV at 11 months out and BLT pts to book BLT at 11 months out.

if your contract is a true "add-on", you would never transfer pts anyway since they are under the same member number.

OTOH, if you have 2 contracts with different UY months (i.e. under different member numbers), you would need to transfer in order to pool 6 pts from one contract with 8 pts from the other to book a single night's stay for 14 pts. otherwise, you could only book 5 nights at BCV with one contract and 2 nights at BCV with the other (assuming both contracts are at BCV) and then ask MS to link the reservations so you wouldn't have to move.

Of course, at the 7 month window you can make reservations anywhere, so the home resort of the points is irrelevant.

But you only have to transfer when it is two different memberships. You can have two home resorts and if they are under the same membership--titled same way with same UY-- then they function as one big pool of points at 7 months...there is no such thing as a transfer of points when the membership is the same.

So, if I owned 100 points at BLT and BWV, both with a June UY, I could use 100 at BLT at 11 months, 100 at BWV at 11 months, and all 200 wherever I want at 7 months.

I think where people get confused is with the terms contracts and membership. I own two contracts at BLT--one is 50 points and one is 130. However, because they are both June UY, its one membership andmy points show up as a total of 180 in my account. When I book, they deplete the 50 point contract first and then take from then 130.

I also own BWV points but with a Dec UY. This is a different contract but also a different membership and therefore, can not be used with my BLT points without my transferring points between the memberships.
