Add on points

I know a lot of people don’t love the towers. I like them as opposed to a sprawling resort where it’s a 10 minute walk to the amenities.
I generally do like towers as well but the Boardwalk in particular is so picturesque I really hope they don't put one there. Throw it closer to the back near Yacht Club instead :P

Sadly, I wouldn’t be shocked if they re-imagine the whole Boardwalk concept. It never became what they envisioned.

And now that it’s 30 years later, there are even fewer guests romanticizing the golden era of the Atlantic City Boardwalk.

Looking at the newest DVC… I think they may be done with era based themes.

I think the big danger for RIV resale is--what happens if a hurricane knocks out the Skyliner for a year or so?
My fear is being locked out of the resort. When more and more resale contracts hit the market that means more people competing at 8 am at 11 months out as they can’t switch to other resorts if they don’t get there dates. I think walking will be an even larger issue than it is currently.

Yeah that is a very good point... Everyone wants the same weeks in theory....

What did they envision it to become? And how is it not there. Seems like one of the best places on property? What metric are we using to determine it’s not a success?

But do they really?

We have owned at BWV since 97. It has always had a great vibe. There is always something happening on the boardwalk. I would really hate to see it go and be replaced by a tower. I love the lobby. Lobby at RIV is sorta the pits. The newer towers just don't do it for me. I love the theming at places such as BoardWalk, AKV, Wilderness Lodge. Very immersive. The current trend to make everything Marriott is really sad.

Just wanted to add, I’m not a fan of putting a tower in, I think it kills the vibe, but it is what Disney does now, looks better on paper. :(
I’m not so sure that Disney is all that concerned about killing the old school vibe. You’ve seen the Poly tower, right?

They wanted it to be an entertainment district destination. People coming from all around to go to Jellyrolls and see performers on the Boardwalk. They’ve long ago cut the performers, dining and entertainment have been cut. Because the crowds never came.

I have and It is yet another example of why I don't like the current trends.
They made BWV Beige! Talk about a vibe killer. Did Imagineering get sent to Marriott to study "hotel" Theming? One of the great things about WDW Resorts was the immersive theming and vibe. I am afraid that middle management and their spreadsheets are killing it.

I think eventually it’ll balance out between not having resale members be able to book there and also I do think Disney is planning to ROFR the hell out of Riviera down the line because they can buy it back for so cheap and then resell it direct.

That being said, I’d still be hesitant to buy a large RIV resale contract for fear of not being able to use all of the points. A small 50 pointer sure, I can use that to bump me into the next room category but like a 2-300 pointer would give me a lot of pause even though I love the resort.

I would be ok with that since we like the larger accommodations and the point chart is higher there than the 42 resorts for F&W so we would need extra.
I'm holding to see if there will be a firesale as that way you could still use them at other resorts.

If you are looking to buy resorts currently for sale, going direct vs. resale is able to rationalize...

If you're looking to buy say boardwalk or Vero Beach, buying resale is the only logical way to go, the markup on those points from DVD is too severe to justify.
This right here. We wanted boardwalk so resale was a no brainer. Next we’d like riviera so we will probably go with direct.
