We just closed on our first DVC contract for 105 points at Saratoga Springs. After having been ROFR'd by Disney twice, our 3rd attempt has gone smoothly and quickly. The deed was recorded on the 30th, so now we're just waiting for our membership info from Disney.

Going into this, we knew 105 points wasn't going to be enough, so we've decided to buy a small add on contract through Disney. DH gets a bonus at work each August, so we plan to use part of that to pay cash for the add on points. We would like to have the points by October, as we have a trip planned for then and want to buy APs with the DVC discount. I know we can't get the discount through our resale, which is part of the reason why we want to add on direct from Disney.

If we try to buy in August, does that give us enough time to have the points by October? We don't want to use them in October, we just want to save some money on the APs, which we need to buy regardless. Is it even possible to buy add on points at SSR or can we only do that at the Poly? And, can we even do this from home or do we have to be at Disney World to add on points?

Buying direct is a much faster process, generally speaking. Your only potential hold up will be inventory, if you are buying Saratoga points direct from Disney.

You can buy add-on at Poly, but those points will be home resort of the Poly, and so with a small add-on you'll be very limited in how many nights you can book at Poly at 11 months. They can't combine with Saratoga points until 7 months out. Depending on time of year, this can create issues booking.

Adding on remotely depends on a lot of factors, including what state you're in. Disney can't sell to certain states/provinces/countries remotely.

We closed our resale contract in September. Added 25 SSR point direct. Contacted our rep on a Friday to be put on a waitlist and points were available the following Tuesday. Points in account next day. Just to give you an idea of timeline wise.

While points will be in your account quickly, you will want to act quickly enough to get your blue DVC Member Card in the mail, so you can get your APs.

Some people have waited months to buy sold out resorts direct and DVD changes their policy, at one point they had waiting lists for direct buys, then they stopped adding names. Now it seems like they started taking names again. My guess is it's related to their sales quota and if sales at the new projects have slowed.

Can you use the online member card to buy the AP's?

Should be able to buy the DVC APs as soon as the direct points are in their account. MS will know they have purchased qualified points. Online might work, too.

No issue with activating the passes, wither as the Guest Services CMs look you up in the system. All they should need would be the confirmation number and a photo ID.

The digital card should be good for the discounts, but they can ask their sales guide when they buy if there is a way to get the actual membership cards right away.

Thank you for the responses and help. We live in TX, is that a state Disney can sell remotely to?

Yes. I added 25 direct points over the phone and I'm in Texas. It took less than 10 mins. They just need a credit card number. Points were in the account that day and I could make a reservation with them had I wanted to.

Paperwork came via FedEx a few days later.
