Hi! I am considering purchasing additional points at a resort other than my"HOME". Can anyone tell me if there is an advantage to this? I know that you cannot take advantage of the 11 month reservation date if the add-on points do not cover your reservation--(I think).

Unfortunately at this time only 50 points would be an affordable option. I am interested to know of the opinions of all of you well -informed DVC members as to the advantages of adding on. Is it worth it?

With banking and borrowing, 50 points would give you 150 to use evry 3 years at your add-on home 11 months in advance.

There are many other permutations of ways to use those points, but the advantage, as usual, is that you have the opportunity to reserve at that resort using the 11 month priority.

Enjoy!

Thanks! I knew there had to be an advantage.

I am waiting to hear from my DVC member guide with specifics on pricing and point w/add-ons at VWL.

I would assume that it is a good idea to buy add-ons for a popular resort.

I just got a postcard a couple weeks ago saying that WLV's will be soon sold out. They are perdicting sell out by January.

Just an FYI, when we took advantage of the VWL add-on last month, that resort had a 100 pt. minimum. It was either Vero or HH that gave you the 50 pt. add-on option.

Another thought would be:

What is your intended us of these points? Do you plan to stay at the new resort for a specified number of years for a specified time of year and how often? If you intend to use the points every year, then you may feel frustrated by borrowing and banking. If not, then Doc's suggestion would do the trick.

To throw an example your way:

If you plan to visit VWL for a long weekend in December to enjoy the Christmas lights (Dec 13-17 using our up coming trip as an example) the point cost is 69 points. You could borrow and/or bank, but you will run out by the third year (+- a few points). This would be fine if you don't want to do it every year but may prove stressful if you want to make it an annual event.

If you don't have the specified intention in mind, then I am not much help :)

On the other hand, if you buy more than you inted to use, you may be stress to try and use the extra points.

As always, JMHO.

Best of luck and ENJOY! :D

What your referring to here is the minimum to take advantage of the MB offer correct? You can add on below this minumum, just not get the advantage of MB, right?

I think, and someone please correct me, you can add-on 25 pts at another resort. For instance, we did a 27 pt add on, and then a 33 pt add on for a total of 60 add on points, knowing that by banking and borrowing, we would be able to have the 11 month preference at key times when needed at that resort every 3nd or 3rd year. Otherwise and at non-christmas and non-spring break times, we could try and most likely be successful at the 7 month window to get our reservations at another non-home resort. It's the busy Christmas and Spring break seasons or the summer season at Hilton Head where the 11 month window becomes a necessity from what I understand. Am I on target?

Right! Minimum add-on at any DVC resort is 25 points. You can add on any number (26, 73, 47) as long as it's 25 or more.

Please clue me in : what is the meaning of "MB"?

RE: the minimum number of points, the letter I rec'd said that the add-ons started at 50 points at the VWL, with financing of 8.5%. Are there any add-on specials that of which you are aware?

Is the 100 pt min for MB new ? We added 70 pts in july and got MB.

MB = Magical Beginnings. When you purchase,DVC buys back your first years points for a specific $$ figure per point & applies that money toward your purchase price.

Nezy,

It depends on you and what your plans are for the next year. If you are planning to take a trip to DVC within this year/use year, it may not benefit you to use the MBs. However, if you don't plan to visit DVC and don't want to bank the points for next year, it may be worth it for you. The current MB is $10.00 for VWL or $13.00 for HHI and VB.

The other option would be to rent this years points. The current rental rates seem to max at $10.00 per point. It would be less of a hassle to take advantage of the MBs rather than trying to rent on your own. Again, this is if you don't plan to bank or use the points this year. Basically, the MBs reduce your out of pocket initial purchase cost. If you are financing, it could help with the down payment or if you are paying cash it would reduce the amount of cash you have to pony up.

For us, we used it for an add-on at VWL and HHI because we didn't need the points for this year. It reduced the out of pocket per point to: $65.00 for VWL and $62.00 for HHI.

As always, JMHO. :)

Best of luck and ENJOY!

OHH YES! Now I remember this option. I think for an add-on option this is a great benefit unless as you say you plan on using those points right away.

Thanks so much!

I love all of these choices!

Can anyone say for sure what the min. add-on for VWL for MB is? Searched and am finding mixed stories. Thanks!

I am concerned with the minimum amount of points allowed for MB also. I called just this week and was told that 100 points was the minimum for add- ons at VWL and be able to take advantage of MB. Since we won't be able to swing a trip by January of 2002, I thought it would be a waste of money at this time. I am calling another guide to verify the info given to me previously.

The minimum for MB at VWL is 100 points (@ $10 per point). At VB and HH, the MB minimum is 50 points (@ $13 per point).

Minimum for financing is 50 points (at all resorts) and minimum add-on purchase is 25 points (at all resorts).

Enjoy!

I spoke to my guide at DVC and he said that for VWL points you need 100 to qualify for the MB, but if you add on at HH you can qualify for MB w/ 50 points.

Does anyone know how much the points are for HH? I know that VWL is $75/pt.

Nezy.

The "price-per-point," offered by DVD, up 'til now, has always been the same for every DVC resort with inventory to sell - i.e. - every resort is at $75 right now. (Wow - is it $75?!?) It's the MB offering that has varied. I suspect it will always be this way, as the MB program enables them to essentially offer different prices for their properties - discounting those that are selling more slowly at a greater rate as an incentive to buy.

The resale market tends to have a higher price for BWV than for OKW.
