So we recently got back where we did a split stay at BCV and AKV (home resort).

After staying at BCV I joked with my husband that we may have to add-on more points in the future so we can stay at BCV more often.

But I was just thinking.....for the future...would it be best to do an add-on of points or buy a new sperate contract?

What are the pros and cons of either option?

If you are planning to buy resale, it may be easier to just buy a new contract because then you don't have to have the same use year, but I have kept all of my add ons in the same contract. We have about 18-19 parts to our contract, some bought resale and some direct through Disney. Other than being able to look at all UY on the resale market, I can't think of a reason that it would be better to have 2 different contracts.

Good luck, whatever you decide!

I'm not sure I understand the distinction you're making. An add-on is a new contract. Whether you buy directly from Disney or as a resale, it will be a new contract that will require a closing. It's not possible to simply add points to an existing contract.

If you buy directly from Disney, your add-on contract will have the same use year as your existing contract. It will also have the same contract number prefix as your existing one, with a different suffix. It is still two separate contracts, though. The add-on will be put under your same member number.

If you buy a resale contract with the same use year (even if its for a different resort), it will also be put under your existing member number. As such, you'll be able to combine the points from both contracts for the same night of a booking. (If the two contracts are for different resorts, you won't be able to combine points on the same reservation until the 7 month point.)

If you buy a resale contract with a different use year than your existing contract, they'll assign you a new member number for it. Even though you own both, DVC will treat it as two separate memberships. You won't be able to combine points from both under the same booking unless you transfer between accounts, which is something you can only do once a year.

Dave,

Thanks for clearing that up for me. We just got back from our trip, this is my first day back in the "real-world" so I am coming out of my vacation induced head fuzziness.

Just wanted to ask for the future. Now to run the numbers and see how many points we would ideally need......we like with our current poin amoutn of ebing able to take at least two trips a year and having a handful of points left to bank (that's how the past 2 years have worked for us). Ideally, I'd like to be able to have enough points for one looong trip staying at BCV and then a short trip at another time in the year, staying, wherever.....

Also after the laundry room situation we experienced at both resorts (we usually stay in studios) I teased my husband about moving up to one bedrooms and having our own washer and dryer and not losing a day to grab a washer at the laundry facilities......

Funny how you discover more comforts you want the more DVC trips you take....

Isn't it amazing? The little things you take for granted at home, how much it makes a difference on vacation.
I told my DH that from now on I want to stay in a 1br... :rotfl: Never thought I would say that... (I'm a point pincher :rolleyes1 ). But after having a baby the convenience of a w/d is so attractive. Coming home without a pile of dirty laundry was heaven...
