We just found out that we are going to get a decent income tax return this year and the first thing that came to mind was to finally add points or maybe buy another contract. My question is: should we buy now or wait for better incentives? I am not even sure what the incentives are right now? We have 150 points at OKW and we were thinking of adding on 100 points but I don't see any exciting incentives right now. Should we wait? Any opinions? We are so excited! We love our DVC. Just trying to get the best deal. :cheer2:

I'm not sure at what point the incentives kick in - but for some reason I believe it is at 160 points. And I'm not positive that incentives even exist for sold out resorts, so would you be looking for SSR or AKV? (or does it matter to you?) I could well be wrong and someone will correct me, or call your guide and they will let you know for sure.

Ii would personally wait for a better incentive. Right now, it's $500 gift card only. Not nearly as good of an incentive as the free points they offered in the Winter. Also, only AKV and SSR are offered as a new contract (160 points minimum). I would personally wait a few months.

Then again, prices do not get lower. As a matter of fact, we seem to be right on the verge of a price increase with some people saying that the prices have already gone up and some still getting the old price until the end of the month.

I was in the same situation last year around this time and I decided to wait a bit. I have a Sept. use year and when August came along there was a special for double developer points. Long story short-I was able to get 100 pts broken into 2 50 pt SSR contracts with 2006 and 2007 points plus the double developer points. It was a great deal (basically 400 points for my 100 point purchase)

What I did was wait and watch. I put the $ in the bank (which was earning 5% last year) and when the deal came along that sounded best, I took it. Prices do go up but better deals sometimes come along. When there are no great DVC deals, sometimes you can find a good resale contract.

Best of luck

There is no guarantee of what future incentives are going to be offered. There is a price increase coming, exact dates are hard to pin down. The minimum add-on purchase is 100 points to get the incentives.

Rumors indicated that the price increase will be between $3-$5 per point. If you wait to summer, it might cost $300-$500 more for that add-on. Its my opinion that the best incentives come out in the fall.

The price increase has already happened. OKW points with a 2057 expiration are now $101 per point. And i don't think that DVC offers incentives on the sold out resorts. I would call your guide and get the latest.

As has been stated there is no guarantee of future incentives. My philosophy is that if you have the discretionary cash to add on now and that is what you want to do, now is likely the time. You will then have the points available immediately and can start to use them!

Good luck with your decision.

I saw that the OKW price did just go up $5. We will talk it over and figure out what to do. We are addicted to Disney World so I am not sure if we will be able to wait too long. :worship:

I'm a wait-it-out fan. We got a better incentive by not jumping at the initial offering to buy AKV.

We also got a better deal when we bought in - even after a price increase - than what was offered when we toured. (12 ppt off plus developer points vs. 8$ ppt and no developer points).

I don't think the economy or housing market is going to make a stellar recovery in the next 12 months, and DVC to finish selling SSR, has a huge resort to sell (Kidani), and another one coming (KT). I'd expect some good incentives to be in the works - with the economy as is I certainly don't see them making it less attractive to purchase than it was last year.

I am thinking of adding on to VB. But if the incentives are in the fall, I have a JUne UY, so I would miss out on the previous years points. DVC Mike suggested adding on the month before your UY so you can get previous years points with very little MF (it is prorated). Hmmm....still not sure what to do. :wizard:

We have a February use year. So I know we won't be waiting until January to add on. We might be able to wait until fall though.

We are in Seattle so we are lucky. I think the housing market has been a little better here than most of the rest of the country. We aren't too worried about investing in more DVC points because it is a good value for us. We try to make it down once or twice a year and we try to take our family too if we can. We have been thinking about upping our points for the last year or so and I was checking on incentives. Maybe they will offer something more exciting soon! :lovestruc
