Add on for OKW

We would like to add on to OKW in October with about 60 more points and I was wondering how long a wait I can anticipate for Disney to have some available or even the the resellers? Is it best to wait for my home resort or should I maybe consider adding points from some other resort in the DVC? What about another month other than Oct? Is it too confusing getting points from another month? Any suggestions? Thanks for your input! Candace

If you are buying direct from DVC, your add-on points must have the same use-year as your main contract. My DVC guide informas me that the only way around this is to buy 150 or more points, but this makes it more difficult to transfer between contracts. If you add-on in the same use-year, your member number is all the same, regardless of the home resort of the various sets of points. Again, this is only true when buying direct from DVC.

Home resort choice for the new points is up to you. It is certainly easier to manage if you only have one home resort. Plus you have greater 11 month reservation power for that GV we all want.

If you buy points resale, UY is another variable; you might also do better in terms of price, but there are plenty of extra variables. You can track all of the different UYs and contracts and such using Caskbills most excellent Point management program.
But, IMO, it is probably easiest if you just buy direct thru DVC, esp for small contracts, plus no closing costs. If you get on the waitlist now you very well may have the extra points you want by October.

We are waiting for an OKW add on. We put our names on the waiting list in November 2003 and haven't heard anything yet. We have a June use year. I'm hoping that we get a call within the year, but have no idea how long the average wait time is! Good luck on getting your extra points!

Our wait for the June use year was almost exactly one full year. We added on in April 2002 at BCV (and put our name on the OKW wait list) and the wait list came through and we added on at OKW in April 2003.

For those of you like Doctor P, who waited a long time, and in that case, the June points came through in April. Were you able to bank those points, or did the points you get "come" in June, or were you able to use the points before they expired because you planned a trip?

Let's just say that we ultimately had two weeks to use the points. I was able to rent them at a reduced rate to a member who was able to take advantage of an existing glitch in the transfer system that allowed him to have more flexibility with the points than I would have had. They absolutely would not allow us to bank the points or use them anywhere but a DVC resort. At least we got something out of it, but it bugs me a bit that the glitch allows other members to use my points with more flexibility than I was given. Oh well, life is short and it's really not that big a deal anyway!
