Add on at BCV/BWV a mistake at the moment?

I`m very tempted to do a small add on at either BCV or BWV, just 50 points. We would buy direct from Disney.
The only thing slight concern I have (apart from deciding exactly which one!) is what will happen to the price should Disney extend the contract years as they are doing with OKW. I`d be paying top dollar but is now not the time to do this?
Sorry if this has been discussed before - I have missed it.

I'm in the same boat, I would love to add on 50 pts at BWV but I am going to wait and see if they extend any others... who knows.. But I hope they do extend them

I guess you're young enough to care. We added on in July, 100 BCV points because we can use them. We have a ressie there for May F&G show, with a big family vacation there planned for '09. We wouldn't add on the years, and we don't intend to sell the points, but if we have to sell, we're willing to live with the hit...it's our kids' inheritance...and we're enjoying it...with them and without them, now!

Sorry, I'm fairly new to this as I'm still in the process of buying my first contract, but What would be the issue here in regards to price and extension?

You have 30+ years on the contract. I would not worry about the point value. They are probaby not going to extend for a long time yet. In the meantime, the cost is going to get higher as Disney pushes up the prices.

I don't own at OKW, but it seems that there's a $25 fee, but for a limited time, it's $15, to extend the life of your contract to when AKV is over. However, Disney is only selling the extended OKW contracts for about $6 over the price it had for the original deadline. So owners are not seeing a benefit for the price. I think that's the issue. It's what I understand.

Gosh, I never really thought of that. And we are YOUNG enough to care also.:thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

I have been on a waitlist for a BCV add on for almost 9 months now.

Call MS ask to check again. i spoke to my was looking for 30 points BCV and he said thay have 114 point for BCV availble right now. Just a heads up for you not shore how many point you were looking for.

I agree that this is the issue regarding future resale.

To me, current OKW sale/resale values support an argument for not extending your OKW contract rather than an argument for not buying a BWV/BCV/VWL contract now.

IMHO, a person shouldn't buy DVC with the expectation of getting money back in a future resale. While that has been an option for most (not all) who purchased in the past, there is no guarantee it will the same for future buyers. Resale value is heavily dependent on how Disney exercises its ROFR.

To the OP: Figure your break even point based on your current vacation patterns. If you buy now and will use the contract for at least the break even period, anything you get via resale will be "gravy". If you buy based on using the contract and don't factor resale value into the equation, you will save yourself a lot of needless stress worrying over something you cannot know and cannot control. Good luck!. JMHO. YMMV.

If I were thinking of buying an add-on from Disney, I'd wait and see. Disney only increased the cost of OKW a few bucks when they added the extra years. I don't think the extra years are worth $15/point, but at $4/point that's not bad.

Using the numbers that have been bantered about so far amounts to only a few hundred dollars difference on a 50 point contract. I guess you need to decide whether possibly saving those few (relatively) dollars in the future or having the points available now for your use is more important.

Good luck!

We are only looking for 50-75 points w/ Sept UY. What UY do you have?

My thought is that with BCV intimately connected to BC/YC, the decision by Disney would be could they make more money by turning BCV into deluxe rooms sold by CRO. OKW is large and stand alone, the most cost effective thing I would do is keep it as it is, and make money with the extension and dues. We own at BCV and am not holding our breath for an extension.

I'm not privy to occupancy rates, but there was talk on the forums that low occupancy at AKL was one of the reasons there is now AKV.

We just added on 50 points at BWV. We'll cross the extension bridge when (if) we come to it. 50 point contracts always seem to get snapped up when they're available for resale, I suspect that will continue to be the case whether they have an extension or not (that didn't influence our decision, but it might influence yours....).

I guess that depends on why you want the add on. If you want to stay at BWV in peak times, then you need to get your add on now. I bought there because EPCOT is my favourite park and I love the Boardwalk area. Its walking distance to 2 parks, Fantasia Gardens mini golf course (for ds13), a gazillion restaurants, a couple of entertainment venues, and a car rental agency in the Swolphin. Personally I don't think they could come up with a more convenient location for a future DVC resort.:goodvibes

If you are planning on selling it after a few years and are looking at resale value, or if you are young enough to be planning vacations in 35 years, maybe you should wait. I know I would lose if I sold, because of a U.S. withholding tax on foreigners, so you need to consider that, since you are in the U.K.

Given that I will be 85 in 2042, if it were extended I would not pay the extra $15, unless they make a DVC retirement village (nursing home?). I purchased a 60 point resale which closed in Sept, after factoring in the closing, I figure I paid $93/pt. On Monday of this week I purchased an add on of 40 pts at $98/pt, available immediately, by the way.:dance3:

I think I'm getting a great deal, since after about 5 years I'll be staying for maintenance fees. My last disney vacation (7n ASSP, 6n CSR, 3n Contemporary) cost me about $2800 for rooms alone. At any rate I'm sure I'll fall in love with another DVC resort before long...I hear Hawaii beckoning.
