Make sure you add in taxes BEFORE you get real excited about your rate!!!!! Just got my credit card bill for 1 night deposit for mom's room and was shocked to see the $320.01 charge for her rpr club room. I had been quoted $288 on May 11. I called rpr about it and yes, the $320.01 is correct for one night when you add in the 14% tax. We're only paying $255 (turns out to be $284.34 w/tax) for our own club room because of AAA and reserving way back in March. Anyway, talked to mom and we decided $320 per night was too much so I switched her to a standard view regular room @ $219....$244.19 w/tax and requested she be in our bldg. somewhere. I tried to use my AP discount since I was the one reserving the room for her and was told "no, the AP holder has to be the one actually staying in the room" Sidenote: I was also told that I have to have my AP in-hand when I check in. When I asked if luggage could be stored while I do this, the girl said to check at the front desk when I get there....sheesh! like I'm going to lug all of our stuff for our 10-night stay to the parks and back again while my family of 4 each gets their AP!!! Thanks to these boards, I am not panicking over any of this because I already know that you can get 10 different answers from 10 diff. people!

Wow, so taxes went up from 11.5% to 14%? Will they still honor your 11.5% rate when you check in?

Nevermind, answered my own question. I just did the math, and the rate is still 11.5%, but I know what you mean. That is a lot in taxes, and I too often forget to figure that in. I was surprised the first time I booked HRH and my $125/night rate was actually closer to $140. Thanks for the reminder.

Ok, so I'm probably adding to my own ressie confusion, but I couldn't stop thinking about how high my mom's room still was. Then I happened to be on the US Fanclub site this morning checking on something else and decided to check fanclub rates at rpr. BINGO!!! I was able to use my fanclub card for my mom's room @ $164 plus tax=$182.86per night total!! Same room, just not the $244.19total. I don't know why I didn't think of that yesterday. The person I talked to today also said my mom's room was listed and "adjoining" to ours and informed me that couldn't happen because we would be on different floors. I told her I had only requested my mom be in the same tower. Then she also said my mom's room price from yesterday was w/AP which the guy that took the info yesterday said I couldn't use. She gladly took my requests for good views, etc. today and was really helpful. BTW, she also said there would be no problem leaving our luggage to get the APs done.....even said about the room not being ready and issuing rooms keys.....you know, the normal, good, "welcome, have a wonderful vacation" stuff that you like to hear now and then! Just to make sure she managed to get everything corrected right I'll call again next week and have whomever answers run through the ressie on the phone. lol, gotta love my mom....she says "are you getting the names of everyone you talk to?" I really am.......but will have to start making a notebook of them soon!!! Should have thought and asked the person I talked to today what the tax rate actually was......I was just going by what the guy said yesterday 14%.

Got back from RPR today and the tax rate was 11.5%. $119 for a standard view becomes $132.69.

is 11.5% for Universal area in Orlando.

It is 12% for Disney's Animal Kingdom and the All Stars Resorts, due to them being in another county.

I could be wrong but I believe Universal and most of the Disney resorts are in Orange county. AKL and the All-Stars are in a bordering county. The tax rate in Orange county is 6% Florida sales tax and there is a 5.5% bed tax added to that to get the 11.5% we know and love.

These resort taxes are going to turn people away from going. With the gas and costs going up I can see a decline in tourists.

I am going on first part of June and getting $155 per night at HRH, Pool veiw room. When the tax was added, it became much less palatable.

I am worrying about gas price hike and it will definately affect my budgit for this trip.

(edited for SP error~)

I guess I shouldn't be surprised. My son even had to pay a "rental tax" for his prom tux here at home. Another thing to be careful with is your shuttle cost to and from airport. I just booked my mom's town car transport. and instead of being the advertised $80 roundtrip, it's $114 with all the airport surcharges, tolls, gratuity. Oh, but they did discount it $2.50 each way because it was my second booking! Everything sounds acceptable until you add up all the extras. I'm just tired of playing w/costs now and unless some really great deal comes along, I'm done planning.......I'm done planning......I'm done planning.....lol:crazy:

I booked a "Stay and Play" package through Universal Vacations and received my fan club discount on the package. If I am not mistaken the package price includes the tax. I hate the little surprises hidden in the fine print.

Don't forget the auto parking charge!!! That is another $6.00 a day. They get you every direction!

Orange COunty Fl tax is 6 1/2 %

6% to state and 1/2 % to County.
So that makes the hotel tax 5%

You should see the hotel taxes in the Northeast.

Nativetexan, I'm soooooo glad to hear that someone else booked the stay and play, and received the fan club discount. I posted on another thread, that I had received this deal, and was pretty much told that i had dreamed the whole thing up. Anyway, glad to see someone else is having my same dream.:D

Eclpz,
I'd like to hear what actually happens if you don't have your AP on hand. I will be going at Thanksgiving to the RPR. I have ordred AP's, but chose to pick them up at the park. We will be arriving at around midnight. I talked to the reservations lady and asked if this would be a problem. She told me that it would not and I could just show them the AP's the following day when we pick them up. Also, I booked a room for my sister and asked about getting the AP rate. The same lady said that I could book one room and my husband the other (since we both will have AP's) and then just switch who actually stays in each room. I hope she's right about all this! I suppose I should've gotten her name....now I'm going to call back and ask about these issues again and write down the name this time! Thanks for bringing this up!
snoozn
