Activating AP Vouchers

Does each AP holder need to be present at the time you activate APs, or can one member of the group do it for everyone? We've only bought activated APs before so no experience with the vouchers. On our next trip, I will likely arrive the night before my mother (both of us will have APs) so my plan was to wake up, head to MK for EE, activate my AP, spend the morning in MK, go back to the resort in the afternoon to rest and meet my mother who is arriving at 4ish, then go to Epcot for dinner. Now I know she can do it herself when she arrives, but since I'll already have wasted time activating my own AP early that morning, will they let me do hers too, or does she have to be present? I mean, clearly I can't be using both, and what sense would that make, so it must be for someone else, and since they can ask to see ID when you use it I can't see why they'd care who activates it, but for some reason it seems like something Disney would require, that each member be present.

I just activated six vouchers on our last trip over Christmas. They were for my four kids and DW. They were with me but didn't wait in line with me and were not there when the CM activated the AP's. I think you will be alright as long as you have the information you need. That was my one experience with this. Others may have had a different one.

When I activated my AP along with my 10 year old daughter I did both while she was sitting on the bench at EPCOT. She was where I could see her but the CM doing the passes could not and he did not ask to see her. Try it and if you run into a problem then wait to do the second one until she is with you.
Make sure you have her address if it is different then yours and a birthdate, I think? I handed my NY license to the CM and not sure if he wanted the birthdate or not but did want it for my daughter.

Good luck.

Thanks for asking about this, justthat! I was wondering the same thing myself the other day. My DD has been staying with her dad and he's bringing her to Orlando to meet us. Now my ex is just FAMOUS for never being where he's supposed to be at the correct time. If I can activate her AP, it will make it much easier in the event that he's late. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

The person does not have to be present (although it makes it easier). But if that person you are activating for is an adult, they will need a photo ID for that person, especially if last names and addresses do not match yours. They do not require photo ID for children.

The thing that they go off of in the system is the address. That is why you can renew someone else's pass if you have their pass number and address. I would think that a copy of her driver's license would suffice if your addresses are not the same. If you are at the same address, you shouldn't need any id.

Thanks! We do have the same address on our licenses so that should work out then. I technically live in DC, but still have my NJ license from when I lived with her so the address is the same. The last name thing is sorta funny. She legally uses her maiden name so that's what's on her license, however, on all of our APs in the past she used my last name (my father's) since that's what she uses socially. Well when her finger scan doesn't work, they ask to see her photo id and everytime the CMs have looked at both her AP and license and said 'okay, go on through' even though the names don't match! Sometimes they'll just hold her AP and ask her what her name is and she usually says the wrong last name and they said "ok, you're good to go". You'd think they'd stop her when the names don't match. I mean I'm glad they don't because that would just cause all sorts of delays since she almost always has trouble with the finger scan, but you'd think they'd be a little more strict considering she could have I guess loaned her AP to another Dorothy.

That would be so much easier if I could do both, rather than having to wait in lines twice for the same thing. And you're right, if they do say no, it won't be the end of the world to stop and activate hers before dinner.

Correct but renewing an existing pass and activating a new one from a voucher are two different things. They don't have you in their system until after it's activated, hence the need for the ID to activate initially.

So, GoldenOldie, does the person need to be present for the pass to be activated then? I don't really see what could be done with the pass since you have to do the finger scan andthey can request to see ID when you use it, so it's not like I can activate it in my mom's name and use it myself (though I'll have my own anyway). It's sort of confusing, what is required to activate since people have activated them for their families who weren't in line with them. If I have her info with me that would be on her id, but not the actual id, that's enough?

Having the person there makes it very easy. Without that person in attendence, a valid ID for them is supposed to be required. Now as with the entire Carousel of Policy at Disney, you may find a CM who doesn't know or care about the policy and you'll have no problem. I am only telling you what they are supposed to have to activate the pass for a non-spousal adult.

It's not a question of what can be done with the pass. It's a question of properly identifying the person who is getting the AP for their records and for security.

Your very worst case is they will tell you that you cannot activate it for her. You won't be in any trouble or anything. They will just tell you to bring her back with you. But as I said, if you catch a new or a lax CM, they may do it all for you in one trip.

See above.
