Activating AP passes

I am going to buy an AP pass for the discount on the hotel room.
But here is my question. I know the ticket becomes activated at the first use, but what places can activate them? Do we have to go to a park before we check into the hotel or can the hotel do them for us?

Hi!! You can activate them at any themepark or at the Downtown Disney customer relations. You do not need to activate them before you check in as long as you have your AP vouchers with you.

When you go to activate them, make sure you have the driver's licenses of all adults in your party. This past November my family and I went to activate our annual pass vouchers at MK - and had brought the U.S. passports for me, DH, DD, DS. The CM said that a passport is not sufficient I.D. to activate the passes!! He said he needed driver's licenses for all adults showing home address. I just happened to have mine with me even though I don't drive at WDW but DH did not and the CM was reluctant to give DH his AP. I pressed and pressed politely and he finally said "Okay, but NEXT time..." The A/P voucher letter was in my name, but that did not impress him. The passports had our addresses penciled in inside the front cover but that did not impress him. If you don't have a driver's license, you need some sort of photo I.D. with your home address, but not a passport. I don't know if the CM was the exception or the rule, but be prepared.
