Activating AP on a blockout date

We bought the online DAP vouchers. These are e-tickets that can be used at the turnstile, giving us each DLR tickets. My understanding is that sometime during our first day, we will need to go to a ticket booth to convert these tickets to DAPs.

We are thinking about activating them on 6/30, which is a DAP blockout date. (I've read here that I can activate my AP on a blockout date.) If we do that, can we still go straight to the turnstiles and convert our tickets to DAPs later that day, or will we need to go to the ticket booth first since it's a DAP blackout day?

Thanks for your help!

I believe that yes, you can simply go to the turnstiles and they will activate it for you. You will need to get a photo taken and you may need to get a block out pass, if you need the block out pass you will need to go to the ticket booth.

Please note, days that we have activated APs on blacked out days we have not needed an additional blackout pass, this may have changed with the new(er) system of activating an AP. I'm not sure, but I'll need to know by July, DD's pass will be blocked the first day we go. :)

You don't need to buy an additional Block out Pass if you activate on a block out day. When you do get it officially activated at a ticket booth, and you get your actual card, they will give you a receipt that says that you activated it that day. When you enter the parks with your card, it'll pop up that it's blocked out...if you show them the receipt, they'll let you in.

Also you can go to the turnstiles first. And anytime throughout the day you can go to a ticket booth and get your card.

No, I knew a blackout pass was not required to be purchased, I just wasn't sure if they would require one for hopping or for getting FP's. We've activated APs plenty of times on blackout days without any problems at all. And we did not need to show a receipt at all, we simply went in and out, back and forth and got FP's however we wanted. I just wasn't sure if that was still the case.

Thanks, pixiewings71 and DLR29, for the responses, but I'm still a little confused.

Will we need to go the ticket booth first so that I have the receipt to show that the DAPs were activated on the blockout day? Or will we be able to go to the turnstiles first? I know I can go directly to the turnstiles if it's not a blockout day, but I'm just not sure if it's different when activating an AP on a blockout day.

Right, that's what I'm not sure about either. When I've activated APs on blackout days previously we didn't need any additional documentation to show when they were purchased/activated. Our APs worked fine at the turnstiles and in the FP machines, I just wanted to confirm it still worked that way.

That's good to know! Last year I purchased an AP and thought I still had to get the AP blockout pass because it was a blockout day. Oh well, live and learn!

Nothing different between activating APs on any day. Go to the turnstiles with your voucher and they'll give you a temporary ticket that you use for the day (FP eligible and park hopper). Sometime during that day (could be the end of the day) you'll have to take that temporary ticket to the booths and exchange it for an actual AP card.

And here is where me and pixiewings' experiences differ. I have activated APs on blockout days (i have and i've seen my friends do it too-most recently 3 months ago) and when I got my card I also received a receipt. When you try and enter one of the parks with your new AP card, it MAY pop up that it's a block out day (maybe not according to pixiewings). No need to fear if it does...you have the receipt. I have also experienced it where the CM just looks at the date on the AP card and realizes that the pass was activated that day. If nothing pops up, then you're good to go also.

And your experience might be more accurate DLR, my last AP was activated on a Saturday in April 2011. :) I've done it 2 or 3 times and I've never had to show any proof of activation or purchase on the blackout day. :) Which brings up my next question, it sounds like you need proof of purchase, but since I've purchased my AP vouchers already does the proof of activation work the same way? I assume it does, just making sure.

I think we will try to just go to the ticket booths first, we get in on a Saturday afternoon so it shouldn't be too difficult.

Yes, it should work just the same! :thumbsup2

Thanks, DLR29! This is very helpful :)
